move to maui: It's gardenia season on Maui - spring is in the air. - 03/31/18 06:19 PM
It's gardenia season on Maui - spring is in the air.
I love this time of year when the gardenias are blooming and their lovely fragrance fills the air!  We moved to Hawaii in the spring and I remember how wonderful it was to be surrounded with their heady scent.  Now it always reminds me of our first days of living here on this "best island in the world".

It's been 38 years now since we called Maui home and I think it was the best move we ever made.

move to maui: This is why I moved to Maui Hawaii - the beaches! - 01/06/15 10:21 AM
This is why I moved to Maui Hawaii - the beaches!
Well, this was one of the reasons anyway. The beaches here on Maui are so beautiful, and the water is warm. If the waves are up it's really fun to play in the foamy water.

Keawakapu Beach, Kihei Maui HI
One of the nicest beaches on the south shore of the island. Just where Kihei meets Wailea there's this gorgeous beach with very expensive homes and a resort or two. That's the Mana Kai resort at the far end of the beach.  Homes here cost around $10M when … (18 comments)

I've been getting a lot of inquiries lately from people who want to move to Maui.  That's not so unusual if you've been here and fallen in love with the beauty of this island paradise.  What's strange though is that more and more of these buyers want to make the move here without having ever been to Maui.  I think it's very brave for somebody to be so dedicated.  To help prospective Maui buyers get a feel for the different neighborhoods, I try to blog about things that they will find … (7 comments)

move to maui: April 1 1980 - Maui here I come, no fooling around - 04/01/09 06:23 PM
April 1 1980 - Moving to Maui
Today is the 29th anniversary of our move to Maui.  It seems like a long time ago, yet only a few years.  What a long fun trip it's been.
Back then we were so young and foolish, and impulsive.  We just left everything behind back in Vancouver, Canada and took the plunge.  I think we had about $9,000. in cash and a whole lot of good intentions to get us started.  Maybe we were fooling ourselves?
We rented a cottage upcountry off Kauhikoa Road, a cute little place.  Paid the first and last month's … (12 comments)

move to maui: Maui north shore fly over - by Blue Hawaiian Helicopters - short video - 09/19/08 08:43 AM
Here's a quick fly over of Maui's north shore, from Ho'okipa Beach Park to Kanaha Beach (east to west).  It's short and sweet, with a nice Hawaiian soundtrack "Home in the Islands".  Yes, it really is this beautiful almost every day of the year.  If this doesn't make you want to get over here for a vacation, then I don't know what to say.

move to maui: NOW I remember why I moved to Maui! ... a day at the beach. - 07/08/08 12:32 PM
A Day at the Beach on Maui
Last weekend we celebrated our wedding anniversary, at the Maui Prince Resort, which made us take some time off, and GO TO THE BEACH!  After living here for 28 years, I have to admit that going to the beach is not one of my top priorities any more. Somewhere along the way, other things became more important, like being a homeowner and taking care of "the most important investment in your life".  We have been very fortunate, and have a wonderful home on Maui that needs a fair amount of maintenance... but we enjoy it … (36 comments)

THE KAHULUI MAUI AIRPORT - OGG
KAHULUI GOOGLE MAP
What can travelers expect when they arrive on Maui?  Here's a brief description of the Maui airport located in the town of Kahului.
Kahului Airport is relatively small, and it's located right on the northeast side of town, by the ocean.  It was once a single building with a tree growing up in the middle of the baggage claim area.  That tree has been cut down, and the airport greatly expanded, but it still retains a friendly character, with a huge central skylight next to the 5 baggage carousels.  All the gates funnel into the baggage area.

move to maui: Big Waves Today - Maui North Shore - Valentine's Day 2008 - 02/14/08 10:23 AM

MAUI NORTH SHORE SURF
Today they are calling for waves to reach 30 feet on the north shore of Maui.  Here are some pictures of the waves at midday, Feb 14, 2008.  They get a lot bigger than this at times.  This is the north shore of Maui - between Paia town and Ho'okipa Beach Park.  Further out to the east will bring you to the famous surf break called JAWS.  Today is not "epic" enough for Jaws, but some tow in surfers will go  went there anyway, and had tons of fun.  Maui is a playground for the hard core surfers, windsurfers, … (8 comments)
