Grateful for so much good food today and everyday! Living on Maui is the best! Living in Hawaii means access to good fresh food every day of the year. Not only from our own gardens, but also from local shops and farmers markets, and restaurants.

These days it's oranges and star fruits from the orchard, and pasture raised beef and wild pork in the freezer. oranges: A good year for citrus fruit on Maui after all the rain

This past season has been very wet on Maui and it's no secret. The good side of that means we had a bumper crop of citrus fruits like oranges and lemons! Our little orange orchard in Haiku really produced a tremendous amount of navel oranges this winter and our visitors have been loving it... making fresh juice every morning. The lemons have also been very abundant, and of course you know what you're supposed to do when life gives you lemons.... make lemonade! So raise your lemonade or orange juice glass and toast to this plentiful harvest of citrus fruits on Maui!

We love to be growing our own oranges in Haiku Maui! While it's taken some time for the trees to mature, it's been worth the wait of about 20 years. It wouldn't have taken so long normally, but due to many adverse conditions these trees were slow to grow and produce fruit. We had to amend the soil and there were a few years when we didn't give them enough attention. But since some time has passed, the ground is much more fertile and the windbreaks have protected these fruit trees. Now we can enjoy some juicy ripe oranges right off the … (16 comments)
