Silent Saturday - pick your own pineapples in Haiku Maui Yes you really can grow a pineapple from the cut off top, as you can see here. These were grown from recycled pineapple tops. It helps if you're very patient as it can take years. It shouldn't take you years to find a home for sale in Haiku Maui, especially if you have helpf from a local Haiku Realtor like myself. You can be sure of a great meal when you visit the Haliimaile General Store (which is really a top notch restaurant) in this quaint village just below Makawao. It was once a general store when this was a company town in the heart of pineapple country. Pineapples are still grown here and now they use them to make vodka! The Maui News online reports that vodka enthusiasts will have a new product to look forward to. Maui Land and Pineapple's cannery in Kahului is now the testing ground and home for a new alcohol product made from sweet pineapples. Master distiller Mark Nigbur has created a unique vodka from pineapples and it's now being distributed to local restaurants and stores on Maui and Oahu.

We have a Costco Wholesale on Maui and we love it. I don't know what we ever did before they opened up here, about 10 years ago. There is only one store still, in Kahului at 540 Haleakala Highway, at the corner of Dairy Road. It's not one of the really big warehouses, but we're happy nevertheless. The great thing about the location in Kahului is that it's right by the airport, so if you're coming on vacation you can make this your first stop, load up the car and head off to your condo.
