Lava rock walls on Kamehameiki Road, Kula Maui HI 96790 When you drive up or down Kamehameiki Road in Kula Maui you'll see these beautiful old rock walls along the roadside. Volcanic lava rock is plentiful in these parts and the early inhabitants had to clear the land of loose rocks to make way for fruit trees and pastures, so they piled them up into walls around the perimeter. There's no mortar holding them together, but the rough nature of the surfaces helps them to grip into place.
