Haiku Maui pole house on acreage, with BIG viewsShowing off my new Haiku Maui listing that just hit the market, and it's getting a lot of attention.  It's a 2-story pole house, very solidly built with quality components and finishes.  And the views...
... are outstanding, with so much ocean and greenery!
28 S. Honokala Rd. unit A is the main house portion of a 2 part CPR development.  CPR means Condominium Property Regime whereby a larger agricultural property is divided into (usually) 2 parts, A and B, with dedicated land for each part.  There are governing documents that explain all the details, … (13 comments)

water catchment: Water Storage Tanks keep getting better - Haiku Maui HI - 08/09/16 07:09 AM
Water Storage Tanks options in Haiku Maui HI
If you're in the market for a rain water catchment storage tank in Hawaii, your choices have gotten better. These days you can get some great solid covers to keep the sun and debris out.
In the past you would probably have gone with a simple black mesh fabric cover which did an adequate job of keeping debris out while still letting water through, but it tended to sag in, no matter how tight you stretched that fabric.  What a great place for birds to come and play... and poop!

As things advanced, a PVC … (8 comments)

water catchment: Have you considered off the grid living on Maui? - 03/15/16 12:04 PM
Have you considered off the grid living on Maui?
With increasing water shortages and power struggles with electric providers, many people are getting fed up with having no control over such basics necessities of life. We kind of take some things for granted when we own a home, such as clean and plentiful water, and a reliable source of power. But what happens when all that becomes unreliable?  Look no further than places like Flint Michigan, or Lake Powell to see that we can't keep on like this.  Shows like Unplugged Nation are letting people know that there are alternatives to what … (12 comments)

water catchment: 493 Kulike Road - Haiku Maui best buy on 2 acres - 10/19/14 08:18 PM
493 Kulike Road - Haiku Maui best buy on 2 acres
This new listing is a real steal for Haiku Maui. 2 lush tropical acres with a house and art studio being offered for only $450,000. Ocean views and convenient ocean access nearby. Where else can you find that on Maui?  Think of this as vacant land with some big improvements, not just a cheap home.

There's a new water catchment system with a 15,000 gallon holding tank. This property would be a good one for going off the grid. Lots of fruit trees like bananas, papayas, coconuts, avocados.

water catchment: It's raining in Haiku today... ActiveRain that is. - 10/01/07 07:19 AM
I think it's appropriate that it's raining here in Haiku today, as I start this BLOG on ActiveRain.
Although there is a water shortage on other parts of this island, we are not in any way concerned about our own water usage, as we have our own supply of water.  We live off the grid and employ a system called "water catchment", which simply means we catch the rain which falls, and store it in tanks.  On our Huelo farm we actually have 3 tanks for holding water: a 12,000 gallon Scafco metal tank; an 8,000 gallon cement tank; and a 500 … (12 comments)
