hampton plantation: Hampton Plantation State Park - 03/09/08 02:23 PM
A few miles up Hwy 17 from McClellanville, just off of the South Santee River on Wambaw Creek is the Hampton Plantation State Park.  The original mansion built in 1735 remains.  This 274 acre plantation was purchased from the Rutledge Family in 1971 and turned into a state park.  There is a lot to see on site.  There are picnic and bathroom facilities as well as trails to walk (click for map) including a walk through the old gardens with incredible camellias, azaleas, & live oaks. The house is open for tours and is set up as an educational tool to teach not only about life … (0 comments)
