business 20: "The Future of Abundance Interview with Tim Sanders" - 07/02/09 09:31 AM
In my last post, "Lovecats, Likeability, and a Plan to Save the World", I discussed the teachings of someone very influential to me. Tim Sanders, New York Times bestselling author of "Love is the Killer App", "The Likeability Factor", and most recently "Saving the World at Work" has been teaching the ways of the "Lovecat" for years.
As discussed in my previous post, the "Lovecat" method focused on approaching your life and business by "Obeying the Law of Abundance", and sharing your contacts, knowledge, and compassion with those around you. This mentality was a predecessor to the Social Web mentality that … (3 comments)

business 20: CAUTION! - How NOT to Incorportate Video into your Business - 07/29/08 04:51 PM
Video: It's the talk of the blogosphere from listing presentation to testimonials. Unfortunately the cardinal rule that many forget in marketing is that,
"Everything that goes out, is posted, or released to the public with your name on it
IS a reflection of your business!"
Here's how I think that some of us "embrace" new technologies.
Read about new ideas or technology Find out how others have used it Figure out how to do it cheaper Do it and make it public Video is one of those things that has been around for a while, yet few really utilize it … (12 comments)

business 20: GET TARGETED! Posting to Localism - Post to your Sphere FIRST! - 07/10/08 01:38 PM
So I have to admit... I have gotten caught up in this whole release of Active Rain Localism as much as the next person.  And where I don't understand some of the territorial marketing commentary going on in some of the posts, I have to admit that it's a pretty neat tool.
BUT...  There's a common thread I see going on.
Many of the threads that I have witnessed going on talk about Localism as this superior way of communication for your business.
The Question becomes...
"Are you communicating (and spending as much time communicating) with your Sphere of influence … (13 comments)

business 20: You're NOT Marketing... How to STOP Advertising and Start Marketing! - 06/30/08 04:35 PM
So, I'm driving down the road today and had to take a picture of this. Why? Because it reminded me of how so many companies (not just real estate companies) approach their marketing efforts... Even more so, it made me think about how many people, (and industries), don't know the difference between ADVERTISING and MARKETING. Are you investing in Real Estate MARKETING or Real Estate ADVERTISING Advertising: The paid, public, non-personal announcement of a persuasive message by an identified sponsor; the non-personal presentation or promotion by a firm of its products to its existing and potential customers. Marketing: The systematic planning, … (17 comments)

business 20: The Most Powerful Thing You Will Read All Day - Guaranteed - 06/20/08 09:47 AM
I'm often not one for forwards, but this movie moved me so much that I had to share it. With all of the things that we go through on a daily basis, all the work, all the family, etc... it's often hard to remember to Pay-it-Forward. I hope this will help everyone remember... and make a difference today. Maybe we should all take a little something from this story and bring it into our lives and our business. - Matt Dollinger

business 20: Proactive Step #1 of - 10 Things for Struggling Realtors to do Right Now! - 06/18/08 05:24 PM

Proactive Step #1 - Know your Numbers Cold
Thanks to everyone for all of your comments on the initial post "10 Easy Things for Struggling Realtors to do Right Now".  Due to a number of questions and requests I would like to take this opportunity to go through exactly what I have taught my agents to do to know their numbers cold.
Part of this is not only knowing YOUR numbers, but also know the numbers that the PUBLIC may be quoting or using.  This allows you to not only know WHY they may be coming up with these numbers, … (12 comments)

business 20: The Starbucks Experience - Bringing "The Third Place" into Focus - 06/10/08 09:48 AM
So I was sitting in Starbucks this morning across the street from one of our offices, meeting with a couple of agents. In between meetings I approached the manager (Kelly) to see if she might have a couple of minutes to talk. I told her that I was interested in finding out about the culture, mentality and training program that Starbucks implemented, and she was happy to talk about it. The reason I chose Starbucks, was because it has always stood out in my mind as one of those "Experience Entrepreneurs"... highly talked about in Joseph Michelli's book "The Starbucks Experience". … (0 comments)
