marketing: Do You Deserve Customer Loyalty? Ask Yourself Why... - 01/22/09 03:02 PM
So I picked up on an interesting thread on Twitter today by Nick Bostic over at Agent Genius.  He had written a very interesting post on Loyalty that I ended up commenting (ok... ranting) on, but it really made me think and do some serious Soul Searching.
The post wasn't overly eloquent... well written... or one of Nick's best (No offense, I think he's a great blogger and really enjoy reading his columns over at Agent Genius) but something about it really stood out and made me think.  And most of all, it made me ask … (9 comments)

marketing: Why You are More Important Than EVER for Real Estate Data - 01/21/09 09:11 AM
Today Kris Berg over at posted a great entry to their blog entitled, "Countering real estate information overload".  Kris writes a great blog on San Diego housing and is a columnist for Inman News.  This column really made me revisit something that we often times forget in this age of information overload and technology whirlwind...
"You are the #1 Absolute Resource of Factual Information for your clients... PERIOD"
Tell me there isn't a statistic that you know is wrong in the newspaper you read the other day.
Tell me that person walking into your open house knows ALL about the … (5 comments)

marketing: Viral Video: What is it and How to Use It - 08/20/08 05:35 PM
Everyone wants to talk about video. In fact, if you're an Inman Member, I would suggest going over there and checking out the PDF slideshow put together by Kelly Roark, Scripps Network Interactive at Real Estate Connect in San Francisco on July 24, 2008 entitled 25 Great uses for Video in Real Estate.
Kelly has some great points in her presentation as well as some ideas that you might not have considered before. I will still stand by my guns and say that it needs to be good quality, (See my earlier post entitled Caution: How NOT to incorporate Video into … (9 comments)

marketing: CAUTION! - How NOT to Incorportate Video into your Business - 07/29/08 04:51 PM
Video: It's the talk of the blogosphere from listing presentation to testimonials. Unfortunately the cardinal rule that many forget in marketing is that,
"Everything that goes out, is posted, or released to the public with your name on it
IS a reflection of your business!"
Here's how I think that some of us "embrace" new technologies.
Read about new ideas or technology Find out how others have used it Figure out how to do it cheaper Do it and make it public Video is one of those things that has been around for a while, yet few really utilize it … (12 comments)

marketing: GET TARGETED! Posting to Localism - Post to your Sphere FIRST! - 07/10/08 01:38 PM
So I have to admit... I have gotten caught up in this whole release of Active Rain Localism as much as the next person.  And where I don't understand some of the territorial marketing commentary going on in some of the posts, I have to admit that it's a pretty neat tool.
BUT...  There's a common thread I see going on.
Many of the threads that I have witnessed going on talk about Localism as this superior way of communication for your business.
The Question becomes...
"Are you communicating (and spending as much time communicating) with your Sphere of influence … (13 comments)

marketing: Advertising vs. Marketing (Part 2) Know your Clients to Know the Difference - 07/01/08 03:12 AM

marketing: You're NOT Marketing... How to STOP Advertising and Start Marketing! - 06/30/08 04:35 PM
So, I'm driving down the road today and had to take a picture of this. Why? Because it reminded me of how so many companies (not just real estate companies) approach their marketing efforts... Even more so, it made me think about how many people, (and industries), don't know the difference between ADVERTISING and MARKETING. Are you investing in Real Estate MARKETING or Real Estate ADVERTISING Advertising: The paid, public, non-personal announcement of a persuasive message by an identified sponsor; the non-personal presentation or promotion by a firm of its products to its existing and potential customers. Marketing: The systematic planning, … (17 comments)

marketing: How To: Understand Your Clients and Create Raving Fans in 1 Hour - 06/16/08 10:31 AM
So, what do you actually KNOW about your clients and referral sources? You probably know the following demographic information: 1. Where they live. 2. What they do for a living. 3. What their general income looks like. 4. Their race, sex, and family status. 5. Possibly their educational level.
But the question becomes, "Does this truly make them people, or are these just demographic factors that we often draw assumptions from?" I think this is a huge difference between knowing your clients' Demographics and their Psychographics... and I believe that the Psychographics are what we really need to know.
