technology: Why Scribd.com has moved to #1 on my Cool List for Blogging - 01/06/09 04:08 PM
So I've been playing around with a number of free online hosting sites as of late. Since we in Chicago have the ability to access some of the most complete and up-to-date real estate statistics via Agent Metrics by Terradatum, it's really come down to a couple of things. Is the site professional looking and allow you to personally brand yourself? Does it allow multiple document formats? (i.e. .doc, .xls, .pdf, etc.) Does it allow the individual to share items both publically and privately? Does it group/categorize the documents into a workable format? Does it do a good job of search … (6 comments)

technology: Turn Your Gmail account into a Text Messaging Machine - HOW TO - 12/13/08 02:07 AM
Big shout out to Joel Burslem from FOREM for sending out a Tweet the other day discussing Google Labs' new process for sending text messages from your Gmail account. The full "How To" can be found on the Google Labs Official Gmail Blog here , but it's easy enough. I even put together a quick video (sorry I'm writing this at the hospital so no sound!) that should guide you through the process. P.S. Joel's always throwing out great knowledge (and interesting tidbits of information as well) so you might want to follow him on Twitter if you "get Twitter". You … (5 comments)

technology: Calling All Realtors and Brokers - Get it now or Get out... and Get Doing - 07/09/08 04:55 PM

My friend Marc Davison over at 1000watt Consulting wrote a post the other day called A House Divided that I think truly addressed the situation that we in the industry are facing right now.
"Let's not beat around the bush. There are deep issues festering in real estate. I've addressed some of them: The disconnect between the industry and the consumer. The barricades thrown up against discounters and alternative models.  The 100-year war for control. But brewing deep in the pit, at the bottom of it all, is a "War of the Roses" between real estate agents and brokers. … (5 comments)

Proactive Step #1 - Know your Numbers Cold
Thanks to everyone for all of your comments on the initial post "10 Easy Things for Struggling Realtors to do Right Now".  Due to a number of questions and requests I would like to take this opportunity to go through exactly what I have taught my agents to do to know their numbers cold.
Part of this is not only knowing YOUR numbers, but also know the numbers that the PUBLIC may be quoting or using.  This allows you to not only know WHY they may be coming up with these numbers, … (12 comments)

technology: When does the map of Web 2.0 become "Clouded"? (Part 1) - 04/29/08 07:59 AM
By mattdollinger at 2008-04-29 I shiver almost every time someone mentions the phrase Web 2.0. The catch phrase of the millenia, 2.0 refers to "the next step", NEW, better than the original. The "official" Wikipedia definition refers to Web 2.0 as, "a term describing a trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to enhance creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users". (see article here) So, what happens when our intricately laid plans of information sharing, creativity, and collaboration actually DISTANCE ourselves from our consumers instead of pulling us together for the sharing … (0 comments)
