Thanksgiving and What I am Thankful for this Year.

I am thankful for so many things this year. As the holidays are fast approaching, I take a moment to reflect on a few of things from this year. I am thankful for the first time homebuyers that closed on their first home last week. They are so excited to be able to move in before the holidays. It is amazing how appreciative the first time homebuyers can be. They were able to walk away with a check from settlement and also an appraisal that came in way above list price. I am sure they will count this as a couple of their blessings as they sit down to feast on Thanksgiving Day. I am truly blessed to have been able to help them achieve this. I am thankful for the homebuyers that went through a foreclosure several years ago due to unforeseen circumstances. They were able to buy another beautiful home this year. Their family will be able to sit down on thanksgiving day and be ever so thankful to own their own home again. I am blessed to be a part of helping them. I am thankful for the ability to get up every day and drive 40 minutes to work. I have a salaried position at my company as well as still being able to sell for my company. Not every day is a picnic, in fact most days are challenging.....however, I am blessed to have a regular paycheck in addition to commmissions now and again. I am thankful for my wonderful boyfriend of 10 years, who cooked dinner this evening and even baked cookies after. Hmmm, maybe he wants a bigger gift this year, I will keep my eye on this situation. :) I am thankful for my two beautiful daughters who have grown up so wonderfully despite my hectic single mom life. And last but not least, I am thankful for my many friends, new and old. Happy Thanksgiving to all!! IT'S FINALLY RAINING! Yes, that's water on my deck and I think it is falling from the sky.....not sure though since it seems that it has been months since it has rained in our neck of the woods. It makes you wonder how the trees and plant life survives. You see I live in an area that the professionals are calling an "extreme drought area" this year. My little garden is still surviving despite the fact that we quit watering it a month ago in fear that our well water may run dry. In fact, as I write this, I have a pan of squash frying on the stove. Of course I don't believe I could survive without running water. It makes me wonder how our ancestors did it. I suppose if you never had it, you wouldn't miss it. (That's what "they" say anyway). By the way, who are "they"? Have you ever thought about that? We are always saying "that's what they say. I want to know who "they" are. "They" must be very knowledgeable on a lot of subjects because we are always referring to what "they" say. If you know who "they" are, will you let me know? I have been traveling through Smoke Hole and Seneca Rocks for over 23 years now. This is the route I take home when going to visit family and friends. It never ceases to amaze me what a beautiful area this really is. When my girls were little we always stopped at the Smoke Hole Caverns gift shop to stretch our legs and get some refreshments. This was a regular routine of ours which continued as they grew into young women. Unfortunately this past year someone chose to set fire to the gift shop and burn it to the ground. It is very sad now when we travel through and all that is left is a concrete slab where once stood the "hitching post" for our trip. They have since built a new gift shop up the road, but as you know, new isn't the same. The area has grown over the years with many log cabins added along the river for camping and a new motel was built. There are many things to enjoy in this area including mountain climbing, fishing, canoeing and spelunking. You really owe it to yourselves to one day check it out if you haven't already done so. As I was pecking away on my laptop today with the sun shining brightly through the window, I couldn't help but notice how dirty my laptop screen was. It was full of smears and streaks and goodness knows what else. Then I started thinking about the keys that seem to be constantly under my fingertips these days. Have you ever stopped to think about how many surfaces we touch in a days time? How about how many we touch in between handwashing or squirting that anit-bacterial goo on our hands? And then we spend hours pecking away at our computers. Hard to believe in this market that my buyers can't find the home of their dreams, isn't it? Well it isn't so hard to believe when you know the details. I have a couple that would love to own their own home. They have been renting for many many years and are ready to move on. Unfortunately they require a Veteran's Administration loan and most of the homes in their price range will not pass (on condition) for VA financing. I really feel bad for this couple. They call me religiously several times a day asking me to look up homes for them that they have driven by or someone has told them about. They aren't real tech savvy so they rely on me for the "techie stuff" (so they say). They did buy a laptop and internet service and are trying to look on their own. I applaud them for that. Did I mention they REALLY want to buy a home! They have been looking for weeks now to no avail. Every time they call me and ask me to check on a home it seems I am calling them back and telling them "no, it won't pass inspection". How can one stay positive about buying a home when every time you get excited about one, you are told no? Well, they are more resilient than most. And so am I. I am determined to find this delightful and loyal couple a home. I keep telling them that when the "right" home comes along, everything will fall into place the way it is supposed to". I truly believe this and if I can keep them believing....they will be in their new home before the end of the year.
