veterans administration: HELP! We want to buy a house and can't find one!

Hard to believe in this market that my buyers can't find the home of their dreams, isn't it? Well it isn't so hard to believe when you know the details. I have a couple that would love to own their own home. They have been renting for many many years and are ready to move on. Unfortunately they require a Veteran's Administration loan and most of the homes in their price range will not pass (on condition) for VA financing. I really feel bad for this couple.
