lancaster city: Is living in Lancaster City then end for your green thumb???? - 10/05/09 03:21 AM

I'm a huge lover of the natural world, nothing makes me happier than bringing my garden indoors.  I was an apartment dweller in Lancaster City for many years and was truly blessed with large windows that faced the sun and my houseplants thrived.  When I bought my semi detached home over 10 years ago, I realized I had a problem.  My home lacked light and my houseplants were dying!!!!
Having a home with great natural light is a rare find in the city.  The large majority of homes in Lancaster City were built during the Victorian Age.  It was … (0 comments)

lancaster city: Another Great Lancaster City Secret.... - 02/03/09 05:50 AM

Anyone who knows me will not be surprised that book reading is one of my favorite pass times.  I'm a re-reader so I prefer to buy affordable, used books to borrowing them.  The other day, I stumbled across one of my new favorite places!  It's the Marshall Street Book Outlet!  The Book Outlet is run by the Friends of the Lancaster Public Library and all proceeds benefit the Lancaster Library!
The Book Outlet operates out of the Book ReSort, where book donations are received and sorted for the Library's annual sales.  The outlet stock comes from these donations.  The volunteers were WONDERFUL!  They even added my … (0 comments)

Lancaster City has been working relentlessly to improve quality of life issues for it's residents.
Recently, the city announced a proposed ordinance that addresses problem tenants and landlords. The ordinance proposes that landlords address the issue of disruptive tenants by mandating eviction following 3 disruptions in a year.  Failure to do so could result in fines and or jail time.  The ordinance also proposes the creation of a problem tenant list that landlords could check prior to renting to prospective tenants.  The ordinance will be voted on this month.  For more information please visit the James Street Improvment District's website by clicking … (0 comments)

lancaster city: "Roslyn" the P.T. Watt Mansion is available for sale! - 10/10/08 06:24 AM

"Roslyn"
1035 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603
One of my all-time favorite properties was just listed by my colleague, Anne Pyle, of Long & Foster Real Estate Inc.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a historic, Marietta Avenue mansion.  "Roslyn" was built in 1896 by celebrated Lancaster architect, C. Emlen Urban.  Mr. Urban was also the designer of many city properties including, but not limited to, Central Market, the Griest Building, Watt & Shand (the soon-to-be convention center) and the Theological Seminary.  This beautiful home is listed on the Lancaster County Historical Sites Register as a "Significant Level I" site, meaning … (17 comments)

lancaster city: 2 New Lancaster City Revitalization Initiatives - 10/03/08 01:40 AM
We've all been witnessing the dramatic revitalization efforts in Lancaster City.  This has been a time of great change and development.  Much of the work is being led by residents, local businesses, neighborhood organizations and civic associations in specific neighborhoods in the city.
Yesterday, I was contacted by Carol McCoy of Lancaster City's Dept of Economic Development & Neighborhood Revitalization with some exciting news regarding 2 new revitalization initiatives.  Earlier this year, the city began to develop strategic plans for the city's Northeast and Southwest neighborhoods.  The city reached out to residents and neighborhood businesses and together they developed the revitalization plans for both … (0 comments)
