It seems that every area of the Country has numerous events for running or walking. The largest and most important here on the Space Coast is probably the Melbourne Music Marathon Weekend.
We have two full days worth of events including 5k and 8k runs, a kids run, a half marathon, a half marathon relay...and of course a full 26.2 mile marathon.
Here is a list of what participants can expect:

The Vero Beach Outlets are Just west of I-95 a few miles south of the Space Coast. They are a large rectangular group of outlets and shops...with all the parking right in the middle. You can get some great bargains on all types of clothing and many other items.

I love almost any live event. Comedy is very high on my list.
At the Melbourne Greyhound Park the upstairs poker room is called Club52. The comedy club runs in a back room of the poker hall. It is certainly nothing fancy...with portable folding tables and a bunch of chairs. They do have waitress service for food and drinks...but I am going to suggest you get your food before you come unless you are in love with very basic bar food.

Central Florida...in fact all of Florida has an amazing array of ecological opportunities to explore with friends and family. We also have wonderful year round weather (you might argue that point in July and August) for those looking to do an assortment of outside activities.
I have a newly discovered love for kayaking. If you are lucky as I was you can hang out with friends who have their own kayaks...or you can go to one of the many places that offer them for rent.

SeaWorld is one of the amazing array of theme parks we have here in Central Florida. Orlando is loaded with parks including all four Disneyworld Parks, both Universal parks, LegoLand, and much more. SeaWorld is an ocean themed park that is built around water activities and of course roller coasters.
SeaWorld has two world class coasters, Kraken and Manta. Kraken is amazing. A longer ride with seats that are a bit more comfortable for children (kids must be at least 54" tall to ride either). Manta is shorter but intense.

Sea Turtle season is in full swing here on the Space Coast. It is that time of year when the turtles lay eggs up and down the Brevard County coast.
We have three types of turtles that lay eggs here....the Green Turtle, the Leatherback (pictured above) and the Loggerhead. My son and I went out last night (6/5/13) with the Sea Turtle Preservation Society and actually watched a mommy Sea Turtle (a Loggerhead) who was well over three feet long lay over 100 eggs!

That's right...depending on where you live on the Space Coast Daytona is from 20 minutes to an hour away! This is certainly (along with the Indianapolis 500) the biggest race of the year for race car fans!
If you are a NASCAR fan you will not need for me to tell you a bunch about this event...if you are not into NASCAR then I will tell you that to fans of the sport this is sort of the World Series or the Super Bowl of racing.

My boy and I decided to take a ride down to the Barrier Island Sanctuary today because of the absolute beautiful Central Florida beach day we are having. He goes back to school soon (in Colorado)...so I let him pick a special treat...and he chose the Sanctuary because of the Sea Turtle exhibits.

I know most folks think of the East Coast of Florida...including the Space Coast and Brevard County as a great place to see a sunrise. Every (clear) morning you will find hundreds of people (tourists as well as locals) snapping photos as the Sun rises above the horizon.
We are not known for our great sunsets here. The west coast of Florida has some World class sunset options (Key West and Clearwater really stand out). I have found a hidden gem for sunsets here on the Space Coast, and I visit it often...it is called the Melbourne Beach Pier.

If you love auto racing or NASCAR you know all about Daytona and the Daytona 500. The speedway is truly World Famous and this race is the biggest day of the year for many race fans.
The Daytona International Speedway offers much more than the Daytona 500. You can head north and do one of the track tours that are available. The Central Florida area from Tampa on the west coast to the Space Coast on the east coast is absolutely full of amazing day trips that include many theme parks. Universal Studios in Orlando is one of my absolute favorites. The park itself is based on many of the movies that have been produced over the years by the World famous movie studio.

The Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts is the premier center in Brevard County for viewing plays, shows and concerts. The center is attached to Melbourne's Brevard Community College campus on Wickham Rd south of Pineda.
We always have a wonderful group of shows scheduled. Upcoming events include the musical Oklahoma, Menopause the Musical, the classic album series (which has the Beatles Rubber Soul and Revolver album) and the band Creed. I have seen top acts like Tony Bennett, Bill Cosby, Gregg Allman and much more taking there turn at the King Center Stage.

The Kennedy Space Center opened in 1962...and it is the place NASA launches all it's rockets, satellites, manned and unmanned space ships. Many visitors come to the Space Coast to see a launch...but you should plan on a visit when the crowds are not flooding through the front gates...so you can enjoy all this National Treasure has to offer!

Walt Disney World is often called the happiest place on Earth. If you enjoy rides, attractions, entertaining shows, learning and eating...well it just might be.
Epcot (Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow) Theme Park is a real favorite for both my boy and myself. It really has some great rides like Soarin (a truly amazing ride over California), Test Track (the fastest ride at Walt Disney World), Mission Space and Spaceship Earth (the big golf ball that has a ride inside that is like a history of humans on Earth).

LegoLand is the newest theme park in the Central Florida area...and is one of the more popular parks with respect to our area kids because it is so interactive...and lets face it...all kids love Lego's!
LegoLand is located in Winter Park...just a little over an hour from the Space Coast. The park is in the location of the former Cypress Gardens Amusement Park...so the grounds are absolutely beautiful.
