off topic and humor: Remember to turn out the lights! - 03/15/08 03:42 PM
I went into my office tonight at about 9pm for a quick fax and I could not believe it...all the lights in the entire office had been left on...all the A/C units had been left on 69 degrees (we had a record high of 89 degrees today)...and not a single fax, computer, or copier had been turned off.
After taking care of business I spent the next ten minutes turning off all the electric guzzlers. This is obviously a colossal waste of energy and I can not think of a single reason all this stuff should have been left on. So … (7 comments)

off topic and humor: Who is going to win the Democratic nomination for President? - 03/14/08 04:15 PM
I keep watching this race for President go back and forth between Clinton and Obama. Today the news is all about how Obama is having issues because of tapes from his preacher. Last week it was all about Clinton and the really stupid things being said by her husband and a former VP candidate....next week...who knows.
If you asked me right now who I think will win I could not give you an answer...I guess that means the winner is probably John McCain. He sits back, raises money, and lets the other two self destruct.
I really did not believe until … (12 comments)

off topic and humor: I love the days growing longer - 03/10/08 10:42 AM
My first Monday today...and it is still light and bright outside. This is so nice...allows me an extra hour to play with my six year old after getting out of the office!
We have extra time to shop or garden or work on the car or play basketball...or whatever. We also tend to get busier at work so I wonder how many of us will see this as time to spend with our clients.
I think as I see the sun still out they we all need to dedicate ourselves to using the extra hour for our families.
I am going … (7 comments)

off topic and humor: Baseball Thoughts....injuries - 03/09/08 03:03 PM
Wow...we are about half way through the spring training season and we are getting inundated with injuries. It started with Brad Lidge getting hurt for the Phillies...and the Mets seem like a walking mash unit...and the Red Sox lose Kurt Shilling...and the Yankees have a scare with AROD...and well you get the idea.
Baseball seasons always come down to the best teams, but also once you get to that point you always must look at who has been lucky. In large part the luck is determined by who has the fewest injuries. If you can remain healthy through the season...or at … (4 comments)

off topic and humor: 21 days to go until opening day...play ball! - 03/04/08 09:25 AM
Wow...only 21 days to go until we see baseball games that really matter...do you know what that means? It is time for you to join your fantasy baseball league!
I love fantasy baseball...it is a great break from the daily grind and allows me to think about one of my favorite things in the world...real baseball.
If you have never tried go to espn.com and join one of the free leagues. It will be a nice initiation for those who have never participated...or even those who are only casual fans. You need about 10 minutes per day once you have drafted … (5 comments)

off topic and humor: Baseball Fans...I Think it is Time For Roger Clemens to Fess Up! - 02/23/08 05:15 AM
I can sort of understand the motivation for an athlete the stature of Roger Clemens to take performance enhancing drugs. He knows he was the best...no doubt! And yet other players who are not doing it the right way begin to eclipse him. I could say the same about Barry Bonds...the best...and yet other began having better numbers.
The issue here is....you cheated! Pure and simple. And now you have been caught by an 11 year old with a camera who probably was taking a picture of his hero. A picture at 11 years old you have shown to every friend … (11 comments)

off topic and humor: My favorite Texas Church - 02/20/08 01:25 AM
L & M's THE EYES OF TEXAS contest to find the best old church in Texas
OK...to be true to this contest I have to admit a couple of things:
1. I am kinda new to Texas (only 3.5 years)
2. I am from NY...so naming cattle has not been one of my normal daily activities.

This is the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio. I Happened on it a couple of years ago when we visited San Antonio. Being a NY Italian boy I must say this is one of the most beautiful churches in the U.S. It was … (1 comments)

off topic and humor: My Baseball Predictions: NL East - 02/16/08 06:56 AM
The final division in my prediction series is the NL East. I have read quite a bit how the Phillies and Braves have improved themselves...and that the Mets have a lot of problems...lets examine:
1. New York Mets: The Mets are 4 deep in quality starters (and 5 deep if they can get 20+ starts out of El Duque). They have a good pen with Billy Wagner, Aaron Hileman, Duaner Sanchez, and more. They have a much improved defence with Brian Schnieder behind the plate replacing Paul LeDuca and Ryan Church replacing Shaun Green (both big defensive upgrades). The have the … (9 comments)

off topic and humor: National League Central Predictions - 02/15/08 04:43 AM
The National League will be a very exciting division to watch this year. It will be hard fought and the winner will likely not be determined until well into September. I find it hard to believe the winner of this division will win the NL Championship because each team has significant flaws.
1. Chicago Cubs: Good starting pitching, weak pen, nice lineup. This team should have enough to win the division title.
2. St Louis Cardinals: Not enough pitching, aging closer, not enough punch in the lineup to overtake the Cubs. Great coaching staff keeps them in it.
3. Milwaukee Brewers: Good … (5 comments)

off topic and humor: National League West Predictions! - 02/13/08 03:32 AM
The National League West is the hardest division to predict in MLB. The issue you have is that you can make a case for each team in the division (except the Giants) to win either the division title or the wild card. Here are my fearless predictions for the final order of finish:
1. San Diego Padres: Great starting pitching and a ball park that helps the pitching even more. Great closer and pen. This team will not beat themselves.
2. LA Dodgers: Lots of ego here...but a good manager for handling ego's. The question is the starting rotation...if they all … (3 comments)

off topic and humor: American League West Predictions! - 02/12/08 05:02 AM
In my series on baseball predictions today I am covering the American League West. This is the smallest division in Major League Baseball with only four teams. Here is my predicted order of finish:
1. Los Angeles Angles: This team if it stays healthy has a great chance to make noise in the playoffs. While the Yanks, Red Sox, Tigers, and Indians beat each others heads in all year the Angles should have a much easier time of it.
2. Seattle Mariners: Too many issues to pick this team. Bedard is a great pick up but is only going to throw … (6 comments)

off topic and humor: Baseball Predictions - American League Central - 02/11/08 04:57 AM
Here is my predictions for the American League Central Division. I believe this will be a close contest for most of the year but in the end the Detroit Tigers will win a close contest with Cleveland.
1. Detroit Tigers: a close finish in 2007 and they added one of the best young bats in baseball (Cabrera) a solid starter (Willis) and a strong SS (Renteria). These additions should net 5-10 more wins and a division title.
2. Cleveland Indians: Solid team with a strong rotation...should battle the Yanks for the Wild Card.
3. Minnesota Twins: too many big time losses … (3 comments)

off topic and humor: Baseball AL East Projection - 02/09/08 03:03 AM
We will give you our reasons from why each team we predict will win.
1. Red Sox: This is the best team in baseball (even with the likely loss of Curt Schilling). Great hitting, Great pitching, good defence, some speed...and a strong pen. They have it all in a so-so AL East.
2. Yankees: We predict a wild card. The issues here are aging vets (Matsui, Damon, Posada, Giambi, and even Jeter and A-Rod are not getting any younger). The pitching staff has great potential...but it is hard to predict potential. The pen is average and Rivera is 38 years old.

off topic and humor: 2008 Baseball World Series Picks - 02/08/08 08:25 AM
Here are the 2008 Picks for who will make it to the Fall Classic:

American League:
East- Boston Red Sox
Central- Detroit Tigers
West- LA Angles (even if Bedard goes to Seattle)
Wild Card- NY Yankees

National League:
East- NY Mets
Central- Chicago Cubs
West- San Diego Padres
Wild Card- LA Dodgers
World Series: Mets over Red Sox
The Mets are my prediction to win the World Series because the have speed, power, fielding, good starting pitching, and a strong closer. Hard to match that in the NL.

off topic and humor: It is almost time for Baseball! - 01/29/08 12:00 AM
My favorite time of year is Spring. To me nothing yells Spring more than PLAY BALL! Every year I look forward to the day pitchers and catchers report to spring training in both Florida and Arizona. The days begin getting a little longer, and everything seems new again. It also signals the beginning of the real estate selling season (which is also one of my favorite seasons).
As a child I had to sit by with my transistor radio at my ear trying to get my favorite teams station in so I could listen to the game. Now we have MLB … (0 comments)

off topic and humor: Ever Notice that Almost Everyone Wants to Live Someplace Else??? - 01/26/08 12:17 PM
I had a client today from the midwest. All she could talk about was living down south in the warmth of Texas. I have other agents in the office talking out the mountains or the woods or the beach or...well you get what I mean. It seems that we have turned into a society of people always believing that the grass is greener on the other side...or the other coast...or in the valley...or on top of the mountain!
When I grew up I could tell you the names of every neighbor on our street. We had block parties, gatherings, and everyone … (5 comments)

off topic and humor: PLEASE Reply with Your Zip Code...and if your area is doing OK or POORLY. - 01/10/08 07:13 AM
We watched the Today Show this morning and the so called EXPERTS said only two zip codes in the entire Country are doing OK.
Our area of Houston and specifically Katy TX is doing quite well (and of course was not mentioned). So I decided we need to have a poll of areas that area doing OK or Poorly. I want to put a piece together that I send to NBC and I need your input.
Please get me your zip code...and either let us know if your area is holding its own or doing poorly. We understand that many areas … (15 comments)

off topic and humor: GUARANTEED SUPER BOWL PICKS! - 01/08/08 08:22 AM
You can bet the house (if you have any equity) on these final four playoff and Super bowl picks:
Final Four:
1. Seattle at Green Bay:  Green Bay 24 Seattle 17 (extra week off helps Favre)
2. NY Giants at Dallas: Dallas 35 Giants 21 (just too much talent and rest for Dallas)
3. San Diego at Indianapolis: Indy 31 San Diego 14 (better defence, better offence = a win)
4. Jacksonville at New England: NE 28 Jacksonville 24 (best game of the weekend....a little too much talent)
NFC/AFC Championships:
1. Green Bay at Dallas: Dallas 28 Green Bay 14 (defence … (12 comments)

off topic and humor: Who is the Best Presidential Candidate for Real Estate's Future? - 01/03/08 09:05 AM
We are seeing a host of candidates talk about taxes, plunging home sales, poverty zones, mortgage fraud, etc...
Who do you think is the best candidate to become our next Presidents...and base your decision only on how that candidate will affect the real estate industry.
Please: This is not about who you may think will do the best overall job...only how it will help or hurt the housing, mortgage, insurance, etc... industries.
And since we are at it...who would be the worst candidate in your opinion for our collective industries?
