market update: Holiday Lull - 12/15/09 12:47 AM
In a market that has snow as a seasonal feature, you can almost predict when the Holiday Lull is about to happen. You turn on the news and the weatherman says Winter Storm Warning or Lake Effect Snow expected... moments later the fluffy, white stuff is cascading down to the ground, snow plows are slamming your signs with mounds of snow, and then the unthinkable happens: the phone stops ringing!
This year has been fairly similar. We made it strong through Firearm Deer Hunting Season (yes, this event slows us down and even makes agents non-existent for 2 weeks), Thanksgiving, and … (2 comments)

market update: Black Friday 2009 is in The Books - 11/28/09 01:58 AM
Thanksgiving has passed and so has the biggest shopping day of the year. Black Friday 2009 seems to have been a hit, based on early feedback from retailers. Online payment processor, PayPal reported that about 25% more money was moved around on Thursday in preparation for Friday shopping, as compared to last year. Will the retail enthusiasm continue through Christmas? Only time will tell.
We have seen plenty of ads for great deals on everything from TVs to toothbrushes from retailers. I am curious to see what kind of deals are out there in your local housing markets. It's no secret … (1 comments)

market update: MidWest Real Estate: Back in Business! - 11/24/09 02:04 AM
The bread and butter of america can be found in our counrty's MidWest. When you think of manufacturing and agriculture in the USA, you're talking about the states from Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana to places in Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska. While the unemployment rate in these states is averaging nearly 10%, these hard-working people have stepped up to buy homes.
A few examples of what we have left of blue collar workers doing some business in the housing industry include growth in Des Moines, Iowa. Higher prices in Cleveland, Ohio. Even Detroit, Michigan is making some much needed progress. Here's the … (0 comments)

market update: Michigan Housing Markets Ready to Rebound?! - 11/13/09 03:05 AM
Traverse City, Michigan?! Most have not heard of the local market that I do my business in and live. We have began to get some media coverage as consistently being a top destination for those in the retirement mode. With low median housing costs and a great upside with regard to qulity of life, Northwest Michigan has been largely unaffected by the housing crisis that has plagued most of the rest of the state and the nation. Truth be told, we are seeing about a 25% home value correction from the boom of 2003-2006. Some of our rural areas have seen … (0 comments)

market update: The Obama Bounce?! - 01/22/09 06:38 AM
We have made it past the Inauguration Day of the newest edition to the long list of citizens who have been elected to the position of President of the USA. No matter who you voted for in this election, most folks in our industry are carefully watching what we as a country are going to do differently to jumpstart our sluggish economy. On Inauguration Day, we saw the market dip about 300 points... not the effect anyone wanted to see. On Day 1 we saw the market gain what it lost and then some. Day 2, as I am writing, … (5 comments)

market update: 2nd Day, 1st Week, 2009... What's Your Market Look Like? - 01/06/09 04:17 AM
Whew! We made it into 2009. This has been a very unique time to be in our real estate industry. We have weathered the "perfect storm" of foreclosures bringing the median home value down, mortgage companies and banks folding- making lending somewhat non-existant, along with some of the highest unemployment rates most states have seen. NAR also reports that "The Pending Home Sales Index in the Northeast dropped 7.2 percent to 63.2 in November and is 14.6 percent below a year ago. In the Midwest the index fell 6.7 percent to 74.2 and is 10.1 percent below November 2007. The … (6 comments)

market update: Some Positive News from the Media?! Its about Time - 12/08/08 02:56 AM
It seems as though the Thanksgiving hangover may be over and we may be waking up without the headache. Its been a while since I have been able to wake up on a Monday and see some good news. We in Michigan are seeing some news that directly affects us locally. It looks as though the government may be 'very likely' to approve a 'bailout plan' for the troubled auto industry to the tune of $15billion. This at least starts a sense of optimism we haven't seen in Michigan in quite some time. As an added bonus, the government is … (0 comments)

market update: Black Friday! Losing the Buyer's Market?! - 11/28/08 11:54 AM
Well another Thanksgiving being over can only lead to one thing... Black Friday. Traditionally, this is the first Friday of the Holiday shopping season and is called such because its the day that retailers all over run sales, promotions, and a ton of marketing to get you in their store and to sell, sell, sell to get out of the red and into the black. This season is seeing a few different things than the past few years in the housing market. We have inventory making a turn with homes selling. We have historic lows for housing prices. We have … (3 comments)
