On The Importance of Compromise

Despite the timing, this post has nothing to do with politics.

It is about real estate.

But, let’s start with the basics.  From Merriam-Webster comes this simple definition of compromise:

a way of reaching agreement in which each person or group gives up something that was wanted in order to end an argument or dispute

Something that combines qualities of two different things

A change that makes something worse and that is not done for a good reason

Yikes, that’s the simple definition?  Number three sounds downright horrible.   Number one is better and two sounds pretty good. Let me … (94 comments)

When That Big BUT Gets In The Way…

This has nothing to do with anatomy

But perhaps

Everything to do with priorities

And

Compromise

You say you want to buy a new home

I will never say this is simple

But

Does it need to be that complicated?

Do you  understand that most purchases(from picking fruit in the produce department to your next home) involves an element of compromise.   Agreed, the complexity of those decisions will vary greatly. BUT there will always be compromise involved.

Unless you have unlimited … (61 comments)

A Pasadena Buyer’s Dilemma - The Dining Room Table Versus A New Home

A recent showing produces the following conversation:

So how do you like the feel of the home?

It won’t work.  The Dining Room is too small.

My dining table has multiple leaves.

So beyond the table, how do you like the rest of the house? The location?

Good. We like it. It works except for the dining room.

In advance of our appointment, I had sent the floor plan, photos and was told they … (26 comments)

Attention Home Buyers: What Are You Willing To Give Up?

In Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley with our very active real estate market and limited inventory, one of the many questions I ask of home buyers:  what are you willing to give up in order to purchase your
first(or next) home?

Real estate is comprised of negotiation and lot of compromise.

Whether the purchase is your first condo or the ultimate in estate living -- compromise always comes into play.
So what are you willing to give up and what will you absolutely not? … (25 comments)

You Will Need To Answer This Question

Are you considering a home purchase?   You will need to answer this question(in fact, there will be many) but there is one that is quite important.
You probably have a checklist, maybe it’s in writing or just in your mind -- your must haves, like to haves and wishes for your new home.   You may be comparing the features or location of your current home or maybe it’s your very first home.  It doesn’t matter --- I know the buyers I have worked with over the years, have a checklist. … (7 comments)

It's Not A Curve Ball, It's Part of The Home Buying Learning Curve

Recently, I met potential first time homebuyers.   We discussed their needs and wishes in a meeting … (22 comments)
