All About Abstruse

Although I admit that I am not on always-friendly terms with words, I do have a certain fascination with them.  I have written posts with words as the topic.  I know it may seem odd or somewhat weird but hey, I have been called worse.  Much worse.  HaHa.

The other day I was reading an online article by a journalist who used the word abstruse.  I was unfamiliar with it.  Quite frankly, this particular journalist has a history of using words that make me run for the dictionary.  Sometimes that trip is enlightening.  Other times, it can be a bit … (34 comments)

words: Whoosh There Goes An Onomatopoeia - 04/06/20 07:16 AM

Whoosh There Goes An Onomatopoeia

For seemingly no reason, my mind wandered to the word onomatopoeia.   You know words that are pronounced like the sound one might imagine they would make.

Woof.  Meow.  Cock-A-Doodle Do.  Three of many.    Of course, examples extend beyond the animal world.  Words found every day and not-so-often.

Paragraphs become chapters then books and possibly volumes.  The usage of words is far-reaching.  Speeches.  Soliloquies.  Dialogs.  As part of the chorus.  And songs, of course.  Plays and Movies.   Words in all forms.  Spoken and written.  And read.

Similes.  Alliteration.  Idioms.  Puns.  All sorts of ways and interpretations.  I'm quite fond of quotes.  They inspire. They make us think.

Does It Make A Difference?  The Case For Saying When Versus If

The other day I was thinking about the meaning behind words.   We know words can be quite powerful and have a long lasting effect.   Choose wisely, right?

This light bulb moment came after speaking with some clients earlier in the week.

We were reviewing paperwork prior to submitting an offer.

I began to say….if the seller accepts your offer, I quickly went back and corrected myself...

when the seller accepts your offer….

A little correction but does that word change … (26 comments)
