los altos area of long beach: It was Red, White and Blue everywhere at the annual Los Altos 4th of July Parade - 07/04/11 05:17 PM
The "red, white and blue" was out in full force this morning in the Los Altos area at the intersection of Garford and Montair.  This annual "American-as-apple-pie" event seems to be growing in not only popularity but also in the amount of decorations on each bike, stroller, and person.
Keep this parade in mind for next year, and decorate away!

My good friend and neighbor, Michael Bauch, of "Riding with the Dutch" fame and a active environmentalist turned me on to this great program being run through the AQMD, Air Quality Management District. Their marketing tagline for the program "Thank you for your interest in Mowing Down Air Pollution" sums it up well. You can help clean the air by turning in your old, operable gasoline-powered lawn mower and purchasing a new electric lawnmower. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. The exchange is taking place on May 14th at Veterans Stadium and there are five models to choose from, with your cost being $100, … (1 comments)

los altos area of long beach: Herman the Stickbug was a hit at our Los Altos Snowday Event - 04/05/11 03:11 PM
This was the first year "Life in Los Altos - Michele K" sponsored Snowday and it was a huge success. Instead of finding a small pile of snow dumped in the park this morning, I found a sled run, a snow covered dance floor, bouncers, tables set-up to accommodate the large crowd for eating free hot dogs, chip, Starbucks coffee, hot chocolate, and lime flavored snowcones. We meet so many wonderful people enjoying the day in the snow with their children while we did our best to supply everyone with our delicious snowball cookies, lollipops and water. On a whim we took … (0 comments)

los altos area of long beach: Sergeant Shredder Really is Our Los Altos Community Hero! - 11/07/10 12:20 PM
Our first free shredding events was hugely successful and went off without a hitch this Saturday at Stanford Middle School in the Los Altos area due the contribution of many. We started early at 9:45, and it was a good thing we did, because Dan Hartnett the owner/operator of Sergeant Shredder and his assistant, the very entertaining Dan, worked steady until we closed shop at 3:00. By the end of day we had collected over 8,000 lbs of paper which is nearly 4 tons!

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive because of the convenient location, good organization and quick shredding process. … (0 comments)

los altos area of long beach: What's Up Los Altos? 10.25.10 - 10/25/10 08:51 AM
The 2010 Women’s Conference takes place on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Maria Shriver has taken a event started in 1985 by Gov. Deukmijian and in seven short years transformed it into an event that sells out within hours of ticket release. The list of participants reads like a who’s who of both Hollywood and Sacramento. I am betting that the discussion between Brown, Whitman and Schwarzenegger make headline news!

The Pheonix Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, my family is celebrating our 11th year of attendance, and we discovered it through friends who have been members since the 60‘s. Not much changes from year to year (although the balloon guy has added … (0 comments)
