The city also runs along the Chino Hills State Park with endless outdoor exploring and the Yorba Regional Park with baseball fields, walking trails, bar-be-que areas and lakes. Plus, the Santa Ana River runs through the city providing walking and biking trails all the way to the beach! I have biked from Yorba Linda to the beach and back several times. It is about 28 to 30 miles each way depending where you start. There are approximately 24 parks and recreational facilities in Yorba Linda. The following site provides a list of them. Take advantage of our great Southern California weather and go visit them today. http://www.ci.yorba-linda.ca.us/government/departments/parksandrecreation.php?from=exp

All About Horses In Yorba Linda

The city has about 100 miles of equestrian, biking and walking trails. They have 3 arenas of which the Buena Vista facility is the largest. This is located near Buena Vista & Imperial Hwy. Also, you can access Chino Hills State Park off of Rimcrest in Yorba Linda and have miles of trail riding with sweeping views of the county. Since some homeowners buy specifically in Yorba Linda to own and house horses, questions about; Trails, programs, contests, stables, etc. comes up. You can get basic information about the trails, arenas and a trail map from the following site: http://www.ci.yorba-linda.ca.us/residents/about/about.phpAn organization in Yorba Linda that serves the horse community is Yorba Linda Country Riders. They are working to get the city to build a new state of the art facility that will have an arena and stables. It would also connect to the trail system in the city. Yorba Linda Country Riders work diligently on behalf of horse enthusiasts. They can provide information on stables, contests, arenas and everything else about horses in Yorba Linda. You can visit their site at: http://www.ylcr.net/

Golf In Yorba Linda

One of the wonderful things Yorba Linda was known for when I was growing up here was the open and rural feel of the city. Horse property was common and it was not unusual for homeowners to have very large lots. Even though the city has developed considerably over the last 40 years, we have made room for 2 golf courses. One of the courses, Yorba Linda Country Club, is a private course that also offers tennis and swimming. It has several banquet rooms for all occasions. For a detailed look at Yorba Linda Country Club visit: HTTP://YORBALINDACLUB.COM/ The newer course, Black Gold Golf Club, is open to the public and runs along the hills offering views of the county. The driving range has lights for evening practice. For a detailed look at Black Gold Golf Club visit: HTTP://BLACKGOLDGOLF.COM/

Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace

One of the most exciting things about driving by the Nixon Library & Birthplace lately is seeing the Presidential helicopter on exhibit. When I was growing up in the Placentia/Yorba Linda area, I remember seeing the old Nixon home next to the elementary school that sat on the lot for decades. To see how the Presidential Library turned out, no matter what side of the political aisle your on, is worth your time. Here is an interesting article about the Presidential helicopter: One of the highlights of a trip to the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is the chance to step aboard Marine One--the helicopter used by Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford. Extensively restored and now on permanent display at the library, the helicopter presents visitors with a rare chance to see how presidents traveled aboard one of the most storied aircraft ever made. The helicopter, which seats sixteen and cost a million dollars to construct in 1960, is a six-ton Sikorsky VH 3A "Sea King" model, bureau number 150617. During its presidential service, the helicopter was known either as Marine One or Army One, depending on whether Marine or Army pilots were operating the craft. President Nixon used it on more than 180 trips, including on overseas visits such as his summit meeting with President Anwar Sadat of Egypt in 1974. Perhaps his most famous use of the helicopter was his last, on August 9, 1974. On that day, President Nixon resigned and flew in the helicopter from the South Lawn of the White House to Andrews Air Force Base, where he boarded Air Force One for a flight to his private residence in San Clemente, California. The helicopter was retired from White House service in 1976 and later used for the training of Secret Service. After being put in storage, the helicopter's interior and exterior were restored, and it was installed on the grounds of the library in 2006.The Sikorsky VH 3A "Sea King" helicopter is on loan courtesy of the National Museum of the Marine Corps. If you want more information about the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace please visit: http://www.nixonlibrary.gov/index.php
