cary: Cary, NC Real Estate, Measuring up. Tale of the Tape: ZOUNDS! That house is GROWING! - 05/19/07 02:10 PM
My chum Rama talked to me yesterday and invited me on a measurement of his latest listing this morning.
Cute 1 1/2 story home with a porch and nice dining room bay window.  Great central location in Cary, NC.  Walk to school and Starbucks.
We did a little homework and determined that Wake County thought the place had 1221 square feet.
And when it last sold several years ago, it was listed at 1375 square feet.
Checked the tax rolls and the folks in Raleigh show a "Fully Finished Attic."  Good, we had no permitting issues.  We currently have an epidemic of homes hitting the market in North … (2 comments)

cary: Cary NC Real Estate, More affordable than many people think - 05/16/07 02:09 PM
Lately I have been beating the drum on affordable homes in Cary, NC.  It seems more important than ever to do so, considering the Town of Cary's back-of-the-hand stance on affordable housing.
Cary gets a lot of publicity about the cost of housing, and a bad rap that folks can't afford to live here.  I set out to identify some communities and neighborhoods in Cary that present affordable options to folks who can't swing a 3000SF and up "Big Hair House."
Not every home in Cary sells for over $500,000.  That $500,000 figure is roughly the average price of a new construction home.  "AVERAGE" means that there are … (0 comments)

cary: Cary, NC Real Estate, Affordable starter home neighborhood in Woodridge At Beechtree - 05/14/07 01:56 PM

Woodridge At Beechtree is a starter home subdivision in Cary, North Carolina.  It was developed in the early 1990's.  One very nice feature of the community is the size of the building lots, from approximately .25 acre to .33 acre.  That dwarfs the lots available in many current new construction luxury home communities.

cary: Cary, NC Real Estate, The battle for Affordable homes in Cary - 05/11/07 04:40 PM
Averge new homes in Cary, NC cost about $500,000.
That is not good enough for some Cary or Wake County or North Carolina lawmakers.
One way to raise the average cost of housing is to make the entry level cost of housing higher, raising the average from the bottom up with unnecessary additional fees.
Three current proposals and movements are coming together to make this less than lofty goal a reality.
1.  Cary is now proposing to design home facades.  Having been criticized in the past for being "Cookiecutterville," Cary leaders now are dabbling with proposals to meddle with what they see as overly repetitive design in new … (2 comments)

Tonight we are looking at Stoneybrook Estates, a beautiful neighborhood of 1960's and 1970's homes in a great central location in Cary, NC, adjoining Farmington Woods.

Once in the neighborhood, you will be entranced by the beauty of lush mature landscaping, including blooming azaleas, and tall, arching mature shade trees.  Stoneybrook Estates was built at a time when houses were placed among the trees, and the trees were honored, rather than clear cut with disdain.

cary: "Foreclosures are for Rich People." - 05/04/07 07:24 AM
I get the question routinely.  The exchange goes something like this:
"Can you help us find a foreclosure home?"
The answer is, "Yes.  I can.  Why do you want one?"
Most of the time I hear, "Well, we want to save money."  Hoping to get a deal, or similar motivation.
Most often it is a young couple looking for a first home.  And I have to tell them the grim truth about our Wake County foreclosure market.
"O.K.  Do you have your mortgage lined up?"  No point in shopping for a home if you haven't shopped for the money.
If not, they need to backtrack and take … (11 comments)
