wake county: Raleigh, NC, Real Estate...Timberlake Subdivision...Private lakes and Privacy! - 02/10/07 12:32 PM

Timberlake was partially mapped in the 1940's as a small subdivision outside Raleigh, North Carolina.  It is blessed with lakes.  The subdivision was originally laid out to include an airstrip for the homeowners, which later was sacrificed for the construction of homes..Over the years it was enlarged and more phases and streets added, but the focus remains the beautiful lakes:

Today, Timberlake is a mixture of 1950's homes and modern 1990's homes.  All homes share the beauty of the four private lakes, with many lakefront homes enjoying the year round waterfront paradise.

A settlement called Bradford's Ordinary began in 1750 in what is now Cary. However, the man credited with founding Cary was Allison Francis "Frank" Page, who was its first developer, mayor, postmaster and railroad agent.Page-Walker Hotel
Page and his wife, Catherine "Kate" Raboteau Page bought 300 acres here in 1854. He named his development after Samuel Fenton Cary, a prohibition leader from Ohio. wake county: Photos in Localism...Art or local flavor? - 01/17/07 02:28 PM
When posting photos, I take the approach that I want folks to see the local flavor, housing styles, old and new mixed.  I'm a ham-and-egger photographer, and I admit it.  So I would rather get dozens of presentable shots than set-up for one great composition that a visitor can't duplicate.
Some favorites:
Yates Mill Pond, Wake County, NC, just taken today.  It is an accessible scene to anyone who walks in.  Don't need a helicopter or time-lapse photography to get the same perception I did:
Same with my walk around the North Carolina State Capitol Grounds in Raleigh.  Easy vista, with nice evening light.  New and old … (16 comments)

wake county: 10 indicators that your real estate agent may be a part-timer... - 01/13/07 02:38 PM
Since there is so much confusion among consumers regarding full-time, full-service agency, I thought it might be helpful to build a knowledge base to help folks differentiate between part-timers, and full-time agents.
10 indicators that your real estate agent may be a part-timer...
•1.     If your agent is driving you around to view homes, and kids run up to buy ice cream every time you stop...You might be working with a part-timer.
•2.     If your Buyer's Agency Agreement has an addendum for "Additional compensation for cell phone minutes above allotment,"...You might be working with a part-timer.
•3.     If your agent's business card also carries mention … (62 comments)

wake county: Wake County North Carolina Property Tax Value vs. Market Value - 01/07/07 10:51 AM
Wake County, North Carolina has a wonderful amount of on-line information available to the public.
Property Buyers and Sellers can access photos, notes on building permits, tax bills, deed history, subdivision or area sales, structure information, and a map of the property, including zoning, environmental features, and aerial photography.
http://www.wakegov.com/tax/default.htm

One item that confuses many Buyers from out of state is the lack of correlation between "Tax Value," and the Listing Price of a property for sale.  Basically, it is safe to say there is no correlation between the two in Wake County, and much of North Carolina.
In many … (19 comments)

wake county: Wake County, North Carolina, Public Schools and school assignment - 01/06/07 08:53 AM
Many folks list "Best Schools" as a top concern when relocating to the North Carolina Triangle area.
Different from many areas, North Carolina organizes and administers school districts at the county level.  This can be confusing to people who assume they will send their kids to the school nearest their new home.  Complicating matters is the rapid growth of the Wake county area.  We are told that 65 people move to Wake County DAILY.  Booming growth is not an easy orchestration to choreograph, and often schools are filled beyond design capacity.
When buying in Wake County, it is wise to remember this, do … (0 comments)
