wordpress: WordCamp, Raleigh, 2013 What Fun! - 11/24/13 06:06 AM
What a pleasure to attend my first WordCamp this weekend.
Wide-open sharing of great WordPress information by generous, VOLUNTEER WP experts.
If you haven't been to WordCamp, GO.
If you have been to WordCamp a dozen times, Go.
If you have never used WordPress, but are curious, GO.
If you are a WordPress User, and want to learn more, GO.
If you are a WordPress Power User, and admit you can learn more, GO.
If you are a WordPress Developer, and know WP inside out, GO, and learn that maybe you don't know everything.

wordpress: Updating sites. And, the Perfect Update Storm - 08/03/13 01:01 PM
Updating to WordPress 3.6 on 5 sites.  With a newly tweaked theme.
Upgrading to IDXBroker Platinum plugin on my No Hassle Property Search.  Tres exciting!
Upgrading to Xenforo 1.2 on my Triangle Real Estate Forum.  Good stuff there.  Features and security enhancements.
And likely buying another existing site, that will need work to flesh it out.
Lots to do all at one time!

wordpress: Today WordPress powers one of every 6 websites - 10/05/12 12:02 PM
"Today WordPress powers one of every 6 websites on the Internet, nearly 60 million in all, with 100,000 more popping up each day."
From Forbes, "With 60 Million Websites, WordPress rules the Web.  So Where's The Money?"
I have to say, I love working with WordPress.  I use .com for single property websites, and have a couple of somewhat neglected self-hosted blogs on my site.Blogging on WordPress is so simple, and WP makes it easy to embed media.  I like the native SEO-friendly properties.  The ability to toggle the editor between HTML and WYSIWYG without losing content is great.
"60 million websites?"  I … (18 comments)

wordpress: Cary NC: Meetups are a great way to meet people and make friends! - 05/31/11 04:09 PM
Raleigh and Cary Meet Up Groups How to find someone who shares your interests?  Or several people who share your interests?  To visit with, teach and learn from? No Problem!
Raleigh and Cary have an active Meetup scene.  You can find someone who has interest in just about anything.
Photography?  No Problem, as there are multiple photography-oriented Meetup Groups.
WordPress?  Sure, there are a couple of groups.
Search Engine Optimization?  Oh, yes, and I just got in from one this evening, the SEO, What You Need to Know group.  It was well-attended, with about 25 people of various backgrounds.  (I think … (2 comments)

wordpress: Triangle Explorer: Another Great Blogger-to-Be in the Raleigh area...... - 01/23/10 02:04 PM
John is a friend whom I have lobbied for over a year to initiate a blog in the Raleigh Area.  He goes by the moniker of "Triangle Explorer."  How fitting!
If you want to know where you can get a good cold brew and a great sandwich, or a steak and malbec, where the next gathering will be, whether a concert, festival, art walk, or just a good time, John is the guy who is trying things out and spreading the word.  And photos.
He's worth reading.  He engages with a common touch in his writing, but with great descriptive power.  … (4 comments)

wordpress: Two WordPress blogs, One Site, Now Live! And Thanks to AR folks - 03/04/08 12:05 AM
Yesterday my new site went live.   What fun!  When do you know it is time to go live?  When the new is better than the old.  Waiting until it is perfect means permanent paralysis...
One site:
www.MikeJaquish.com
Two WordPress blogs.  "Neighborhoods" and "Journal."
http://neighborhoods.MikeJaquish.com
http://blog.MikeJaquish.com
In "Neighborhoods," we will create and post content to help folks learn about local communities, amenities, and activities.  Content is now coming on-line daily.
In "Unplugged," I will hold forth on a variety of topics, listings, market forces, personal opinions, remodeling and house issues, etc.  Opinions?  Never in short supply here.
I want the visitor's experience to be friendly and engaging.  I hope that shows.
After stumbling around … (28 comments)
