It was an honour to take part in the third annual Hockey Night in Barrie charity fund raiser last month. Together with the event's organizer, Barrie MP Patrick Brown, his hard working staff, volunteers and the generosity of close to 5000 City of Barrie and area residents, we raised $200,000 that night for the New RVH Cancer Centre.

This is proving to be an interesting year in the humble perspective of one Realtor and the common thread through most of my observations is a heightened determination by government to influence and manipulate the ability to buy homes. Perhaps our strongest and most entrenched basic need is for shelter. Our location on the big orb is such that shelter is not just a want or a status symbol here in Canada. The fabric of the North American economy is under a stain, potentially as great as any witnessed in the past century. It isn’t going to heal of its own accord this time around. Many of the economic models, methods and corporate behaviors that have guided the capitalist world in the past are becoming antiquated and will not sustain us much longer. The deregulation of our biggest industries opened the doors to unbridled top level greed and made houses of cards out of many of our tried and true blue chip corporations.
