ontario real estate: Barrie Real Estate - Boom, Bust or Echo? - 03/13/13 01:36 AM
Those who have been in the business of selling Real Estate in Ontario long enough to remember rolodexes and cellular phones that looked more like luggage than anything else like to recount the years 1989-1990 much like our grandparents talked about the dirty thirties.
They talk about how by 1990 local real estate markets which had seen one record boom year after the next and everyone expected double digit increases in home values year after year, suddenly all came to a crashing halt.
Many home owners who purchased in the previous couple years found themselves waiting another 10 or more years for … (0 comments)

ontario real estate: The Barrie Ontario mid summer real estate limbo dance - 06/30/10 03:53 AM

For as long as I have been a Realtor in Barrie Ontario there has been a pattern to real estate activity year after year that for the most part remains unchanged. Around about the middle of March, once we have had two or three days in a row of above freezing temperatures and the previous few months of accumulated snow banks appear to be shrinking, that's when it happens. A natural phenomenon that tells geese and robbins to head north, and people to plan for a move. Home owners start purging their stuff for goodwill and garage sales and can be spotted Saturday mornings  at … (2 comments)

ontario real estate: Encouraging the Dream of Home Ownership Must Be Central Part of Economic Recovery: Tim Hudak - 03/11/10 04:58 AM

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

BARRIE – Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak today addressed the Barrie & District Association of Realtors and expressed his belief that any economic recovery plan must include making the dream of home ownership more affordable for Ontario families.
In his remarks, Hudak discussed how Dalton McGuinty’s $3 billion HST tax grab will drive up the costs associated with buying or selling a home. In particular, the HST will be fully applied to closing costs as well as to the value of properties worth more than $400,000.
Hudak also used his remarks to explain how … (1 comments)

ontario real estate: Eliminate Land Transfer Tax for One Year to Stimulate Barrie and Ontario Housing Market - 06/10/09 06:41 AM
Niagara West Conservative MPP Tim Hudac raises a challenge to the provincial Finance minister to consider a reprieve from the charging of Land Transfer Taxes for just one year in order to stimulate the real estate and housing industries that are at the core of our economy.
This makes far too much sense I am afraid for it to ever be put into practise. I personally know a few young couples struggling to save their down payments and closing costs to buy their first homes that would be ready to act today if the government were to implement this.

ontario real estate: Ontario Realtors insure Green Energy Act is more user friendly for home buyers and sellers - 06/03/09 01:47 AM

An OREA delegation appeared before the Standing Committee on General Government  in April to discuss REALTOR® concerns related to the Green Energy Act, and more specifically, mandatory home energy audits. Following our appearance, the Standing Committee conducted a clause by clause review of the bill. During that process the government moved to amend Part 1, Section 2 in a number of areas. For example, the mandatory home energy audits will no longer apply to leases or commercial properties and, in fact, will only apply to single family residences.
Most importantly for REALTORS®, the government added a provision that allows a … (0 comments)

ontario real estate: :: When should first time Barrie home buyers step up in a Real Estate market correction? :: - 11/24/08 08:23 AM
Buy low, sell high, the universal principle of investment and if it were as simple to implement as it sounds we would all be reaping the rewards. The real skill is in best determining where the bottom of any market is before it passes by and it takes a few months of steady value increases to know we have hit it. It also lies in having the confidence to step up.The logic one needs to apply is really no different than that used by a practical shopper in Wal Mart. When an item you have wanted goes on sale you snap … (2 comments)

ontario real estate: :: GST Cut good for existing Barrie area Home Owners as well as Buyers :: - 01/11/08 12:34 AM

New homebuyers may see the biggest savings, however, when the new one per cent reduction in the GST takes effect in January 2008, it will also help existing homeowners to pay for home renovations, new appliances or furniture. The federal government claims that Canadians spend an average of $7,475 on renovations when they buy a home, and spend another $3,950 on furniture and appliances. Based on these figures, the GST cut represents $114 in savings.
The Canadian Home Builders Association offer the following guidelines for home renovations and how the GST is applied.
Renovations done before or after January 1, … (2 comments)

ontario real estate: :: Barrie, Ontario and Canadian Real Estate Market forecast for 2008 :: - 11/14/07 01:20 AM
Housing starts expected to dip in 2008 (information from Ontario Real Estate Association)
November 12, 2007 — New home construction will drop in 2008 in part due to higher housing prices and mortgage carrying costs. That’s the word from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s (CMHC) fourth quarter Housing Market Outlook, Canada Edition report.
Housing starts will reach 227,530 units in 2007, an increase of 0.1 per cent from the 227,395 units in 2006, according to the report. However, in 2008, residential construction will decline to about 214,000 units. Despite this drop, 2008 will mark the seventh consecutive year in which housing starts … (0 comments)
