A Spontaneous ActiveRain Gathering in Baxter, Minnesota Yesterday

Yesterday morning, I was in Baxter, Minnesota at the Greater Lakes Association of Realtors (GLAR), representing the Minnesota CRS Chapter (Council of Residential Specialists) as its 2015 President.  The event was part of our "Breakfast of Champions"  series, a panel discussion about Real Estate Trends and Issues Facing Today’s REALTORS®.

We had a fabulous group of attendees yesterday.  And among those in attendance was well-known Minnesota blogger and home staging professional Kathleen Lordbock. Kathleen approached me after the event ended and I recognized her right away!

Okay, so it turned out to be an impromptu gathering … (11 comments)

council of residential specialists: Featured Article in the MN CRS Chapter February 2013 Newsletter - 02/12/13 11:11 AM
Featured Article in the MN CRS Chapter February 2013 Newsletter

I was pleased to be quoted in this month's Minnesota CRS Chapter newsletter, in a brief article entitled "Why CRS?" that was published today. That article appears below:

Minnesota CRS Chapter President Dan Boman was kind enough to ask me to write something about why I choose to serve on CRS chapter boards in two states and why I serve on the CRS national Diversity Committee.
I'm fortunate to serve on two great state CRS Chapter teams, as 2013 CRS Chapter President in Wisconsin and as a Director for the Minnesota Chapter.  And one of my … (0 comments)

council of residential specialists: Why Are So Many Agents Clueless About How to Send a Referral? - 02/27/12 02:54 AM

Why Are So Many Agents Clueless About How to Send a Referral?

In the course of receiving and sending real estate referrals, I've seen a lot of agent behavior which suggests that a pretty large percentage of agents have had little or no training about how to send a referral that results in a positive experience for the clients they are referring.
And I've also come to the conclusion that if the sending agent isn't willing to at least interview a handful of agents in the state and city (or town) where the referral is being sent, that sending agent isn't doing … (1 comments)

council of residential specialists: Serving on CRS Chapter Boards in both Minnesota and Wisconsin - 10/19/10 03:51 AM
Yesterday I was delighted to receive an email from Ray Singhal, 2010 President of the Minnesota CRS Chapter, informing me that I've been elected to the Board of the Minnesota CRS Chapter.

For the past few years, I've also been serving on the Board of the Wisconsin CRS Chapter and have worked my way up the ladder in Wisconsin to become Treasurer-elect and Education Chair.  My Treasurer duties with the Wisconsin CRS Chapter will commence in January of 2011.
I had some reservations about taking on another appointment and another set of duties.  But I believe strongly in the value of the CRS Designation and … (4 comments)

council of residential specialists: Real Estate Webinars - Which Do You Like? Have You Found any Particularly Helpful? - 09/21/10 01:01 PM
It seems like the real estate industry is flooded with Webinars lately.
NAR has gotten in on the act.  So is the Council of Residential Specialists.  RealBird and TourFactory offer their own product webinars.  There are webinars on social networking and searh engine optimization and real estate photography.  There are others that are product-specific, like the TourFactory webinars.  And still others that are about growing your business or staying positive in a negative economy.
I receive solicitations to attend real estate webinars every day in my inbox.
Some of these webinars are free.  Others charge for the privilege.  My experience has been that some of the best webinars … (6 comments)

council of residential specialists: This Month's Issue of "The Residential Specialist" Features an Article I Want You to Read - 02/04/10 01:41 PM
Back in late October of 2009, I got a phone call from Regina Ludes, a staff writer with The Residential Specialist magazine.  Regina told me she was putting together an article on the different ways that some agents promote the CRS Designation to the public and to others in the real estate industry.  Regina requested an interview and a couple days later, we spent about forty-five minutes chatting over the phone.
Regina's article appears in the newly-released January - February 2010 issue of the Residential Specialist magazine.  Please click on the photo below to read the full article.

The article is entitled "Letter … (7 comments)

council of residential specialists: A reminder - CRS has approved Institute For Luxury Home Marketing course for elective credit towards CRS designation - 06/07/08 07:55 AM
Early this year, the Council of Residential Specialists®  (CRS) approved the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing course for two elective credits towards earning the CRS designation.
Now, agents and brokers interested in earning their CLHMS® designation (Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist) may also obtain CRS elective credits for doing so.
The two designations are a perfect match for real estate professionals.  CRS has long been the "gold standard" in real estate education and agent networking.  And the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing  has established itself, both though the quality of its coursework and its networking savvy in the luxury homes market, as a leader … (10 comments)
