The question came up during a friendly conversation with a Twin Cities area competitor that wasn't about shop talk, at least not when it began. It was flattering, in an odd way, and it was tinged with a smidgen of frustration. That competitor went on, saying, "okay, you don't buy ads on Z----- or T----- and you don't get leads or clients from your broker" (mainly because I am my own broker) so how do you do it? I mean, where does your business come from?"

I received the most unique referral inquiry of my real estate career yesterday. A well-known Florida agent with a successful international real estate practice contacted me, asking for my assistance in helping one of his clients.
This agent is aware of my background as a symphony musician and theater/studio orchestra conductor prior to becoming a real estate practitioner. Word travels fast in the world of travel.
The Yahoo Travel website has picked up the news story about Madeline Island (part of the Apostle Islands of Northwest Wisconsin) making the "World's Most Secret Islands" list. The article bears the subtitle "10 Dreamy Islands Unknown to the Average U.S. Traveler".
The list of islands in the Yahoo post is an impressive one, including islands in Micronesia, British Columbia, France, Maylaysia, Brazil, Thailand, Scotland and Virginia.

Madeline Island Praised Again by the Chicago Tribune
The Chicago Tribune Travel Section has again lavished praise on Madeline Island, in a "Top Ten" online article entitled "Most Secret Islands on the Globe".
I'm not at all certain that Madeline Island is a secret anymore, at least not to Minnesotans and Wisconsinites, but the PR value of this feature article is much appreciated!
Madeline Island made the top of this impressive list, which included islands in the Bahamas, Brazil, Thailand, Scotland, France, Malaysia, Micronesia, British Columbia and Virginia.

Yesterday evening, I had the good fortune to run into friends and clients at the event. New Madeline Island summer resident Matt Sturgis was there, exhibiting his bronze sculptures in studio 207. I've always been a huge fan of Google Maps. And I've meant to embed my Google Map for our Madeline Island listings for some time now.
I've finally gotten around to accomplishing this. The map below indicates each of our listings on Madeline Island with a miniature version of our blue Madeline Island Realty sailboat logo graphic.
Clicking on each listing takes the visitor to a link, either to a virtual tour, a YouTube video or a single-property flyer.

One of my clients took a look in the trunk of my Toyota Camry this past weekend and commented "looks like you're prepared for anything". I'll take that as a compliment. Browsing through the 2008 edition of "Who's Who in Luxury Real Estate", I found my way to the portion of the book that lists individual cities and towns represented in the book. The directory provides an insight into some of the best-known luxury home areas in each state. The directory also lists luxury locales in foreign countries, including the Canadian provinces.
"Who's Who in Luxury Real Estate" is published by John Brian Losh, creator of the enormously-popular LuxuryRealEstate.com website. This nearly 800-page member directory is a must-read for anyone in real estate who wishes to familiarize themselves with real estate firms that specialize in the luxury home market.

I tuned into FOX TV's new cop thriller, "K-ville" yesterday evening, and I was delighted to see an old friend, John Carroll Lynch, starring in a lead role (Captain James Embry). John is a Guthrie Theater alumnus and colleague of mine from the 1990s and we worked together at the old Guthrie when the late Garland Wright was Artistic Director. I was Music Director at the time I worked with John on Peter Weiss' Marat/Sade at the Guthrie in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
