wayzata lakes realty: Successful Luxury Home Marketing Requires the Ability to Communicate Luxury - 10/31/10 09:58 AM

SUCCESSFUL LUXURY HOME MARKETING REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE LUXURY

If your marketing of a luxury property doesn't look luxurious, you're setting yourself up for failure.  And if you are thinking about listing a fine home with an agent who hasn't a clue about how to make your property look valuable and desirable, you're about to make a major mistake.
What makes a property listing look luxurious?
The process starts with high-quality photography.  That also involves great staging and planning for each photo shoot.  You'll want to take high-resolution, wide angle photos of the living spaces in the home.  Those photos … (9 comments)

wayzata lakes realty: "Stop the World, I Want to get Off" - Is New Technology Coming at you too Rapidly to Keep up? - 10/24/10 04:35 AM
Lately I've noticed quite a few posts on ActiveRain about "too much new technology" and "too many gimmicks and gadgets".  A post I wrote about QR codes even drew a couple of pretty strange comments about an Orwellian conspiracy to tattoo bar codes on the arms of Americans.  In another post I just read on the same subject, the author wants someone to "prove it to me that this technology is worth using".
Here's the way I look at it:
IGNORE GOOGLE AT YOUR OWN PERIL.  Google is invested in QR Code technology.  So is RealBird.  Apple is promoting it with several iPhone Apps specifically created for … (8 comments)

wayzata lakes realty: This Month's Issue of "The Residential Specialist" Features an Article I Want You to Read - 02/04/10 01:41 PM
Back in late October of 2009, I got a phone call from Regina Ludes, a staff writer with The Residential Specialist magazine.  Regina told me she was putting together an article on the different ways that some agents promote the CRS Designation to the public and to others in the real estate industry.  Regina requested an interview and a couple days later, we spent about forty-five minutes chatting over the phone.
Regina's article appears in the newly-released January - February 2010 issue of the Residential Specialist magazine.  Please click on the photo below to read the full article.

The article is entitled "Letter … (7 comments)

wayzata lakes realty: Passed the 100,000-point mark in TWO states, thanks to my friends on ActiveRain - 05/30/08 08:30 PM
It took me nearly a year to reach this point, but the time was well spent.
This evening, both my real estate companies (Wayzata Lakes Realty in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Madeline Island Realty in La Pointe, Wisconsin) passed the 100,000 point mark on ActiveRain!
Friends deserve much of the credit.
Karen Anne Stone mentored me and gave me great advice.
Charles McDonald offered his friendship and his guidance.  Charles was the first AR member to write me and introduce himself.
Ruthmarie Hicks has been a source of inspiration and optimism.
Joey Aszterbaum was kind enough to provide encouragement on more than one occasion.
Kathy McGraw served as an example of what it means to be a … (55 comments)

wayzata lakes realty: Basic Black is Always Elegant, Simple and Never Out of Style in Marketing Materials - 05/17/08 05:05 AM
John Molloy, author of the Dress for Success series of books, used to refer to "the little black dress" as a staple in a woman's wardrobe.  And we're all familiar with the elegance of the combination of tuxedo and black tie in men's apparel.
Basic Black (or black & white) can be a dynamite choice in marketing materials as well.

Take a look at Ricardo Bueno's logo.

Ricardo is a Los Angeles, California loan broker.
His stylized initials "RB" in black make a simple but powerful marketing statement.

Next, let's examine a logo by Richard Lombari Jr.

wayzata lakes realty: Listing a Luxury Home? Put Away the Valuables, Including Collectible Art Works - 05/10/08 09:49 AM
Your upper-bracket sellers may thank you for this tip.
Not surprisingly, a high percentage of luxury homes are not only expensively decorated, but many luxury homeowners tend to enjoy displaying their taste in fine art, antiques and collectibles.  And when you put a luxury home on the market, therein lies the problem.
You wouldn't hesitate to advise a luxury home client to put away jewelry, coin collections or cash.  Have you advised your clients to take stock of their art and antiques?  And while you're asking them this question, perhaps you should suggest that they put their best and most valuable art works in storage … (2 comments)

wayzata lakes realty: "Blues In The Night" Appearing at the Ordway Center in Saint Paul Through May 18 - 04/02/08 06:38 AM
The Ordway's McKnight Theatre in downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota has a real winner onstage with "Blues In The Night", a celebration of Blues and Jazz music.
Blues In The Night features a dynamite cast, including my friend Debbie Duncan, who has made recent Twin Cities appearances at Crave in Edina and at the Dakota Jazz Club in downtown Minneapolis.  Other featured cast members include Jamecia Bennett, Julius C. Collins III and Regina Marie Williams.  The musicians are led by Raymond Berg on keyboards, with Joe Pulice on drums, Jay Young on bass and Mark Lenander on guitar.
This blues celebration in the McKnight comes on the heels of the Ordway's very … (2 comments)

wayzata lakes realty: Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch Website Helps You Make Seafood Choices That Are Good for the Environment! - 03/31/08 05:38 PM
Seafood Watch is an online consumer's guide to seafood options which are sustainable and good for you at the same time.  The organization makes recommendations to the public about which seafood choices are best for ocean fisheries and fish farms from an environmental standpoint.
The group publishes a 2008 "Central US Seafood Guide" (I got my free copy at the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory in Saint Paul, Minnesota) which divides seafood items into three categories: "Best Choices", "Good Alternatives" and "Avoid".  For example, the Guide names Monkfish, Shark, Red Snapper, imported wild Sturgeon Caviar and Bluefin tuna as species which "are caught or … (8 comments)
