marybeth tiemeyer: Need a Light? - 01/15/09 05:01 AM
Oncor Energy, an electric company in Texas, has five energy efficiency programs following the "green" transition around the world. The company has launched a campaign for the state's residents in which a total of 8 electric companies educate consumers about the importance of compact fluorescent light bulbs. With this type of bulb alone individuals with a company such as Energy Star could save up to 75% on their energy bills. Additionally, the bulbs are a "better choice for the environment," and could potentially reduce cooling bills. These lights are a little more expensive, however, they last much longer.
I'd advise you … (0 comments)

marybeth tiemeyer: Saving on the Heat Bill! - 01/14/09 08:39 AM
1. THE CEILING FAN.If you're in a townhome or home with high ceilings, turning on the ceiling fan will actually keep some of the rising heat downstairs.2. ELECTRONIC THERMOSTATS - NOT THE OLD ONESSwitch to or try to get an electric thermostat. With all the energy saving talk these days electric thermostats can be set automatic so that energy is not wasted. They can adjust to room temperature settings during the night or when you're away. 3. BUY A HUMDIFIERBuying a humidifier for your home obviously will adjust the humidity level in your home. When the heat is on all the … (0 comments)

Apparently this is a standard procedure all paramedics follow at the scene of an accident when they come across your cell phone. ICE - 'In Case of Emergency'We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in … (3 comments)

marybeth tiemeyer: Lead-based Poisoning in Homes & Toys! - 12/26/08 07:30 AM
Lead-inspection is a big issue in real estate and disclosure is a MUST when it comes to selling a home. In real estate, it's only natural that an agent whose listing is older than 1978 come with a lead-based paint addendum to all buyers. While lead poisoning has been an issue since the early 1900s, just last year recognized brand names like Fisher Price and Mattel were recalled because of this. There is now a credible web site which provides those of you with family's information on your child's toy products. Visit: http://www.leadinspector.com/?gclid=CPn8ofGTgZACFRs5sgodxk7ouAThough something like lead-based paint poisoning would seem almost … (0 comments)

marybeth tiemeyer: Did You Know This About Your Home? - 12/26/08 04:41 AM
Purchasing a home becomes a big responsibility. There are many things that need to be done on a seasonal basis to adequately take care of your home. You should exercise great caution when doing things yourself although we recommend hiring a qualified professional to take care of any work that needs to be done. I have composed a few maintenance and safety tips in addition to money saving ideas that often times homeowners tend to forget about:1. Run all gas-powered lawn equipment until the fuel tank is empty.By doing this, you are removing flammable liquid storage from your garage. At the … (6 comments)

marybeth tiemeyer: Buying Homes with Self-Directed 401Ks - 11/25/08 08:22 AM
In a self-directed IRA, an individual owner is able to make his/her own investment decisions. The Internal Revenue Service requires a trustee or a custodian hold self-directed assets for an IRA owner. A traditional IRA has an investment strategy allocating to stocks, bonds, mortgages, et cetera. Additionally, individuals have the flexibility to make whatever decisions they want to make in an investment. It is very common for individuals to invest in residential real estate with a self-directed 401k. In contrast, a traditional IRA typically invests in commercial real estate. Though more uncommon, there are some residential real estate investments with the … (1 comments)

marybeth tiemeyer: Update on Tax-Credit for First-Time Home Buyers - 11/19/08 03:16 AM
In last months post, we introduced some information in regards to the first-time home owner tax credit. Below is updated information in regards to the credit:
The credit can really be looked at as a interest free loan. In repaying the tax credit, those individuals that are eligible will claim the credit on the new IRS Form "5045." This form will be included with the 2008 forms. Upon repayment, individuals will have to recover $500 per year for the next 15 years. This will need to begin on the 2010 tax returns. If at anytime a home needs to be sold … (0 comments)

marybeth tiemeyer: Tax Credit for First-Time HomeBuyers! - 10/24/08 08:56 AM
April 9, 2008 through July 1, 2009 - First-time home buyers can recieve as much as $7,500 as a credited tax. This claim is made on the federal income tax return. However, there are income limits and qualifications per individual.
A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in what the taxpayer owes. That means that a taxpayer who owes $7,500 in income taxes and who receives a $7,500 tax credit would owe nothing to the IRS.
A FEW NOTES:1. The home must be the primary residence. This includes all types of homes.
2. The modified adjusted gross income is the annual … (0 comments)
