conway mo: Homecoming Pep Rally in Conway Missouri - 2009
- 02/21/09 02:29 PM
Do you remember the Pep Rally? It's been a long time since I've given any thought to the Pep Rallys we held in school. I don't remember grade school get togethers. I doubt we had any since my grade school split into at least three different high schools. But, I do remember my high school, Benet Academy, and the Friday pep rally. I especially remember "We Are the Champions" by Queen pouring into the hallways from the loud speakers. To this day I do not know who allowed such a song to be played in our Catholic prep school hallways, but (0 comments)

conway mo: Are you smarter than a 6th grade Geography student?
- 11/27/08 12:09 PM
I had no idea there was such an event: The National Geographic Bee.Since 1989, the National Geographic Society has been hosting a Geographic Bee for students. First the students compete in their classroom or homeschooling group. One winner per classroom/group. Then the classroom winners go on to compete at the school level. One winner per school / homeschooling group. That winner will then take a written test, with the top 100 scores going to the State level Geographic Bee. One state winner will go on to national. My daughter won her classroom round and this week participated in our school level (2 comments)

conway mo: Ezard Elementary - 6th grade Trash Art {Conway Missouri}
- 11/20/08 01:00 PM
Ezard Elementary School in Conway Missouri - The 6th grade class has been learning about "going green." They've talked about the environment, recycling and using items in unusual ways. Their latest assignment? Trash Art.
Use at least four items/things from around the home that otherwise would be thrown away. Think "outside the box" Try to avoid paint. This morning, boxes, tin foil, tooth picks, soup cans and straws invaded the upper hall. The creativity of the class was impressive! How can you re-use items that would other wise end up in the trash bin? My daughter, Ashley, used a variety of items (9 comments)

Back in May of this year, the Laclede County R-1 (Conway, MO) boys baseball team did something no other team in school history had done before: A Final 4 appearance. On May 29, 2008 our boys played in the Class 2 MSHSAA game for 3rd place. Going into the game the Conway Bears were 20 and 8, with Senior pitcher Kelby Rader 5 and 0. The boys easily won over Hallsville, 7 to 3. I must admit, I didn't know all the particulars of the win until a few weeks ago after walking into a PACKED school board meeting. Let me say, (2 comments)
conway mo: Inspired By Heros: Our Teachers
- 09/16/08 01:55 PM
Ezard Elementary, Conway MO. Teachers as heros. During my first 40 years, I've been blessed to have many hero's in my life. My Mom, my Dad, my husband, just to name a few. I consider Richard Nixon, FDR, George Halas and a few others hero's as well. They all have made a mark on the world, not always in the most obvious of ways. But, the true hero's in life, I do believe, are the teacher's; those in our schools, entrusted with our children each day. Growing up, I went to a Catholic grade school, high school and college. Many of the (7 comments)

conway mo: Why I moved to Lebanon, Missouri
- 07/10/08 04:29 PM
Several times a week I am asked, "Why did you move to Missouri?" or "Why did you move to Lebanon, Missouri?" I usually give the standard answer, "My parents moved here. I wanted my children to be near their grandparents." Nothing in life is that simple, is it? No not really. Our reasons for moving really are more complex than that. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago.Back "in the day" we had a quite community, a close knit family. I could walk to the mall with friends. I could go to the store and be greeted by name. I couldn't get away (4 comments)
I've written this post a hundred times in my mind. It's been six weeks and I still can't get it down, not really. It's too hard to say good bye.May 23rd was our last day of regular school at Conway Elementary in Conway, Missouri. The following Tuesday, we started summer school and today, the 3rd of July, our summer school came to a close. Our long time principle is now officially retired. We said our good byes, teary eyed.
I don't think Mr. Hibbs will be surprised should he read this post - I think he would expect me (3 comments)
conway mo: A new resident of Conway, MO - a red fox?
- 06/18/08 04:47 PM
Red foxes are common in the State of Missouri and mostly nocturnal. So, I have to tell you I was surprised to meet one early this morning on a street in Conway, MO.I had just taken photos for a BPO and was getting ready to put my camera away. Before me, at the stop sign, sat a fox. Pulling up, I watched. She wasn't afraid. She actually looked a little perplexed that I was driving down her street. Population of Conway, MO: 781 plus one

- 05/21/08 02:48 PM
Last Saturday, a group of us joined forces to hold a first for our area - a Volunteer Fair. Ten different organizations set up information stations at the Conway Community Building. We had a really light turn out from the public, yet this was one of the best networking events I've ever been involved in.Each of us took just a few moments to introduce ourselves to the others and tell a little bit about our organization. As president of our Practical Parenting Partnership (PPP) at Conway Elementary I was able to talk about how we assist the teachers, students and families (4 comments)
conway mo: Putting myself on the line: Running for school board... again... Conway, MO
- 04/02/08 02:54 PM
I probably shouldn't admit this... but it is what it is. I'm running for the Laclede County R-1 school board . . . again. This will be my third try. I've heard all sorts of things in my quest to serve on the school board. The most popular comment: You're not from here. You're an OUTSIDER. I've lived in the Conway, MO area since January 2000. I was born and raised out side of Chicago; my kids were born there as well. No matter what I do, how long I live here, I will never be from Missouri. Neither will my kids. But, I think of (13 comments)
conway mo: Twins - Conway, Missouri style
- 03/31/08 12:42 PM
This morning, I was out and about, trying to find a foreclosure property between Conway and Marshfield, Missouri. I never did find the home I was looking for, but I did pass this Momma cow and her babies several times. Finally, I just had to pull over and take a few photos for our website and for my Active Rain friends. This is the first year I've noticed twins. My husband said he has see a few sets of twins this year out in the fields but agreed, this is the first year he's really noticed them. The University of Nebraska at Lincoln reports that the (11 comments)
