Until a few weeks ago, I had never heard of Donkey Basketball. I know, I know, where have I been? You mean real, live donkeys? people ride the donkeys? in the gym? I had to see this! I can assure you this was worth more than the $6 ticket price - joining the donkey's were students and business men and women from Lebanon. It was rather fun to see a few of (5 comments)

family activities: Bookworm MeMe.... Thanks Don Rogers for asking: I am reading....
- 11/29/08 12:29 PM
Thanks to my good friend Don Rogers, I was tagged for the bookworm MeMe a few weeks ago. However, a few sick kids, work, my own case of the flu and the Thanksgiving holiday put my MeMe on the back burner. Tonight, it's a little chilly here in Missouri and I debated: read my latest book or play work on the computer. Ah, the MeMe will allow me to do both, at least for a little while! The task at hand: Grab the nearest book Open the book to page 56 Find the fifth sentence Post the text of the next (7 comments)
family activities: Are you smarter than a 6th grade Geography student?
- 11/27/08 12:09 PM
I had no idea there was such an event: The National Geographic Bee.Since 1989, the National Geographic Society has been hosting a Geographic Bee for students. First the students compete in their classroom or homeschooling group. One winner per classroom/group. Then the classroom winners go on to compete at the school level. One winner per school / homeschooling group. That winner will then take a written test, with the top 100 scores going to the State level Geographic Bee. One state winner will go on to national. My daughter won her classroom round and this week participated in our school level (2 comments)

family activities: Ezard Elementary - 6th grade Trash Art {Conway Missouri}
- 11/20/08 01:00 PM
Ezard Elementary School in Conway Missouri - The 6th grade class has been learning about "going green." They've talked about the environment, recycling and using items in unusual ways. Their latest assignment? Trash Art.
Use at least four items/things from around the home that otherwise would be thrown away. Think "outside the box" Try to avoid paint. This morning, boxes, tin foil, tooth picks, soup cans and straws invaded the upper hall. The creativity of the class was impressive! How can you re-use items that would other wise end up in the trash bin? My daughter, Ashley, used a variety of items (9 comments)

Going into the game the Conway Bears were 20 and 8, with Senior pitcher Kelby Rader 5 and 0. The boys easily won over Hallsville, 7 to 3. I must admit, I didn't know all the particulars of the win until a few weeks ago after walking into a PACKED school board meeting. Let me say, (2 comments)

family activities: Inspired By Heros: Our Teachers
- 09/16/08 01:55 PM
Ezard Elementary, Conway MO. Teachers as heros. During my first 40 years, I've been blessed to have many hero's in my life. My Mom, my Dad, my husband, just to name a few. I consider Richard Nixon, FDR, George Halas and a few others hero's as well. They all have made a mark on the world, not always in the most obvious of ways. But, the true hero's in life, I do believe, are the teacher's; those in our schools, entrusted with our children each day. Growing up, I went to a Catholic grade school, high school and college. Many of the (7 comments)
family activities: So... what did we do before the Internet?
- 09/02/08 01:31 PM
I'm sitting at my laptop, on-line via my cell phone. Satellite TV on in the background, coming from the living room. Sounds of the Wii float through the air from the kids playing down the hall. Last Thursday a storm took out our router box, used for our high speed Internet connection. The box exploded into pieces - thanks to a summer storm, complete with show stopping lightening. We used a box from our Marshfield office over the weekend, but that box had to go back this morning, so business could resume after the holiday. UPS has yet to bring us (22 comments)

A few weeks ago, I posted about my obsession with the Flip Ultra Video recorder. After reading numerous posts on Active Rain about this pocket sized camcorder, I just had to have one! After pouring over Ebay - who wants to pay full price? - my pink Flip Ultra was on it's way.
Once my box arrived, life got in the way! My new Flip sat on my desk, lonely and waiting. Tonight, the kids have friends over and we decided to make the 14 mile trek to Dairy Queen. It's warm and humid; ice cream is what (10 comments)
Long Lane, MO is a rural town located in South Central Missouri, in Dallas County. You'll find Long Lane almost 12 miles east of Buffalo, MO and 12 miles west of Lebanon, MO along Hwy 32. To say Long Lane is a small town is probably an understatement - the "city limit" sign doesn't list a population nor does "Long Lane" show up on the US Census Bureau map! Locals estimate the population to be around 90 people. Travel along Hwy 32 into Long Lane, and you'll find the local post office. (Long Lane, MO does have it's own (7 comments)
