Ann Arbor is actively networking to be one of the receiptants of the fiber network that Google is installing. You can join the Facebook Fan Page to keep updated, there are already 7,993 fans there, connecting and discussing. Both the City of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan are putting together an application to send to Google. What will a fiber network mean to the communities that Google selects? A video conference without connection hiccups. A movie rental that takes five minutes to download, as opposed to an hour. I enjoy looking at all the ALT tags on Chris Griffiths posts and Bob Carney's posts. Some people have emailed me and asked what the heck is an ALT tag? I found this great video on YouTube with the master himself, Matt Cutts explaining ALT tags. ALT tags are important because they tell the person reading what the image (photo) is about. It is easy to do on Activerain, after you upload your photo, just add a title tag and image description. The title tag will be what shows up when someone holds their cursor over the photo. Not sure how I found myself there this cold, rainy morning in Michigan but I landed on this site called Majon.com. It is a SEO company and they are recognized from the Better Business Bureau. They have lots of credible clients. I know on activerain and elsewhere I have heard that google hates link directories or link farms.So I don't usually get intrigued by them. Yesterday the Ann Arbor News sponsored their annual Outlook 2007 luncheon. First to the good news.....not much but Grady Burnett, Director of online operations at Google spoke and he was very positive. He said they chose Ann Arbor because of the environment of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. As a graduate of U.M he was hopeful of the economy turning around and their goal to hire 1000 employees within 5 years. They are currently at 50.
