The Tammany Trace is a scenic recreational paved trail with a parallel equestrian trail with recreational facilities along its path. St. Tammany Parish acquired the railroad right-of-way from the Illinois Railroad in 1992 and the Tammany Trace became the first and only Louisiana railroad to become part of the National Rail to Trail Network. With the help of government funding and grants, the railroad was reconstructed to a 31 mile asphalted trail for the 290,000 pedestrians, bicyclists, equestrians, roller bladers and joggers who enjoy the The Trace annually. The Trace, also a wildlife conservation area, has also become a great place (2 comments)
