A Relaxing Morning Along Western Montana's Cedar Creek We are both getting in shape this spring and decided to spend Saturday morning with a bike ride along Western Montana's Cedar Creek. Cedar Creek is located near the town of Superior Montana in Mineral County. It's only about 45 minutes from Missoula, Montana. If you're looking for open space, Mineral County is a great place to live because 87% of the County is Publicly Owned - mostly by the U.S. Forest Service! So Relax, and enjoy the soothing sounds of Cedar Creek!
cedar creek: Anthropologists to Perform a Dig in the China Gulch Area of Cedar Creek in Superior this Week!

Anthropologists from the University of Montana, in conjunction with the US Forest Service, will be visiting Superior this week and performing an archeological dig in the China Gulch area of Cedar Creek. They were also here in 1995 and discovered several things, including the U-shaped hearth in this photo. Cedar Creek has a colorful history to say the least. In 1869, a Frenchman named Louis Barrette discovered gold and established Louiseville, named after his wife. By 1870, Louiseville was a booming mining town, but within 3 years it would be completely abandoned. The Chinese who were forced out of Idaho moved into the (0 comments)

Superior has a colorful Wild West history with a Gold Rush and Boomtowns that sprang up around the area. We have a local museum and historical society that was able to provide me with some great information on the history of the area. Cedar Creek Gold Rush The discovery of gold and the ensuing stampede into Mineral County's Cedar Creek gulch took place more than 100 years ago. Time has dimmed much of the story, but it is known that Cedar had all the elements of greed, violence and rowdiness found in gold mining camps.
