Missoula, Montana was recently named Ninth in the category of "Greenest Commuter Towns" by AARP. This was based on a 2007 Census Bureau Estimate that 8.91% of Missoulians bike or walk to work. Missoula promotes biking and walking to work with Missoula in Motion - a program designed to help local businesses, institutions and individuals address transportation issues within the Missoula community. Missoula in Motion has a Way to Go Club as a special way to reward those throughout the community who are choosing a different option than driving alone in their cars. "Going Green" is definitely the trend right now. This extends to all aspects of our daily lives, from eliminating plastic shopping bags, to measuring and minimizing our carbon footprint, and also to home construction. According to the National Association of Home Builders, the green segment of the construction industry is expected to climb from 2 percent of all housing starts in 2005 to between 5 and 10 percent in 2010. If these numbers are any indication, the practices advocated by green enthusiasts are well on their way to becoming mainstream. So what makes a home green? Has anyone used the website Walkscore - www.walkscore.com? It's a way to identify a unique feature of your listings - walkability. It rates how close your listing is to grocery stores, restaurants, gyms, parks, schools, and more. It also shows where these places are on a map. Scores range from 0-100. They also offer a free tool for your website. A great way to promote "Going Green" in real estate. What is your listing's Walkscore?

Have any of you advertised on http://www.greenhomesforsale.com/ ? I found out about the website in a brief clip on NBC news tonight about green weddings and how green weddings are popular now and then people shop for a green home. We have a beautiful home listed in Superior, Montana that is a "Green" construction and would like to get additional exposure to attract people interested in this kind of home. We placed an ad on greenhomesforsale.com for 90 days. We're trying all of the traditional marketing tactics but want to expand our efforts. Do any of you have other suggestions for (3 comments)

Do you have items that are still usable but you no longer need? Or, are you in need of some items? If so, visit the Missoula Freecycle Network at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Missoula-Freecycle/ . It's free and easy to sign up through Yahoo Groups. I've been a member for several months and got some great patio chairs and an almost new grill through the group. We've also posted several items to give away. The Missoula network is pretty active and you'll get new opportunities almost every day.
