I just read an article entitled "What Real Estate Agents Wish You Knew About Their Job, Part 1" by Rob Hahn. In this article Rob states that the public doesn't think highly of real estate agents because they don't interact with them often enough to form their own opinion (only once every 7 years for the average consumer). Mr. Hahn states that "The first and most important thing that real estate agents wish you knew about their job is how hard you make it on them."
