Q. My husband and I had a short sale 2 years ago. We were told by our Loan Officer that we can't buy a house until we have saved enough to put down at least a 3.5% down payment and 3 years has past since the short sale was finalized. Even though FHA has the 'Back to Work' program which he said allows some people to buy in just 1 year after a short sale, we did not qualify.
