dillsboro nc: Most Photogenic Guy at the Dillsboro Easter Hat Parade, Dillsboro, NC - 03/31/13 02:33 AM
Some folks didn't need an Easter Bonnet to be a standout in the Easter Parade in Dillsboro yesterday.  A group of antique car owners always lead off the procession in their classy vintage rides.    Our friend, Marion Jones had his companion "Major" as his co-pilot in his beautiful 1977 green Ford pick up truck.  This truck looked like it could be in a magazine ad for 1977 Ford pick up trucks. Marion told me that everything on the truck was original, including the paint!  While "Major" hasn't been a part of the truck since 1977, he definitely is an original … (7 comments)

dillsboro nc: This Time Last Year in Dillsboro, NC - 03/24/13 03:19 PM
This tree was in full bloom about this time last year.  I saw it while on a walk with the Office Manager down near the boat put in where Scotts Creek flows into the Tuckasegee River in Dillsboro, NC.     This year, just tonight we have Winter Warnings running on the television screen.  Sometime between tonight and Tuesday night we have predictions of several inches of snow all across the mountains of western North Carolina. Sigh. … (6 comments)

dillsboro nc: It's Good to See Larger Families Traveling Again - Dillsboro, NC - 03/15/13 01:58 PM
A particularly large family traveled together today to visit Dillsboro.  After stopping off at Bradley's General Store for ice cream cones, the family did some shopping at Treehouse Pottery, Dogwood Crafters and The Golden Carp.  Before heading out to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for a little hiking, they took a little breather on the deck of Cannon's Corner just outside our office.       Nice family photo, don't you think? … (13 comments)

dillsboro nc: Things Are Never as Simple as Black & White... - 02/05/13 08:52 PM
Things are never as simple as black and white...there's always a little color in life.  Whenever we have a snowfall, one of my favorite views is directly out the picture window in the front of the house.  Come to think of it...this is one of my favorite views no matter what the weather is!        This stained glass piece is a creation by Bobby Pace with Riverwood Menagerie in Dillsboro, NC ... just one of the many reasons I love being here. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ … (10 comments)

dillsboro nc: Ducks, Tuck and the Train...Memories of The Fugitive - 01/22/13 12:10 PM
Ducks must be really hardy birds.  The outside temperature today as I drove alongside the Tuckasegee River was about 31 degrees.  I don't even want to think was the water temperature was.  Tunnel Mountain Road runs beside the river and just before heading up the mountain towards the farmhouse, there is a little campground.  I glanced toward the river and noticed this little group of Mallards paddling around in the water.  The wind was fierce enough that the water was swirling about the birds.  What caught my eye was the iridescent green heads of the males.    We haven't seen … (10 comments)

dillsboro nc: Our Small (so far) Flood in Dillsboro Really Put Things in Perspective - 01/16/13 10:42 AM
You might recall this idyllic scene from a post earlier this year.  This is a portion of Scotts Creek that usually flows gently through the middle of Dillsboro. Nice, huh?           Due to the heavy and extensive rains over the last several days...plus we are predicted to get another 2.67" tonight...Scotts Creek turned into a raging river.  Note how close to the top of the bank the river creek is flowing.  Usually, there is a good 8-10 feet from river creek to the top of the bank.  On the night of the 15th, this river creek … (13 comments)

dillsboro nc: We Left the Office Shortly After Midnight...Flooding in Dillsboro, NC - 01/15/13 09:40 PM
It certainly feels like we've gotten the biblical amount of 40 days and 40 nights worth of rain.  If I knew what a cubit was, we'd start drafting plans for an ark!  It really hasn't been 40 days and nights but it has been 4 days or better of non-stop rain.  Some of it, like what I'm looking at right now as I look over the yard has been extremely heavy.   We called our friends at The Golden Carp in Dillsboro to get an idea of how Scotts Creek was doing.  Scotts Creek runs right through Dillsboro and joins … (10 comments)

dillsboro nc: Even in Winter... - 01/06/13 12:37 PM
Even in winter, the farmhouse on Tunnel Mountain Rd just outside of Dillsboro, NC still boasts some vibrant color.  This moss almost looks like the grass you might find in someone's aquarium.     It looks like we'll be getting some springlike weather this week, by Thursday we might even see temperatures near 65 degrees.  Hopefully the plants won't get too confused since I'm sure this will only be a temporary respite and cold temperatures are likely to return next week.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~   … (14 comments)

dillsboro nc: Fireglow - 12/15/12 01:42 PM
JoeFrank McKee from Tree House Pottery in Dillsboro couldn't have made me happier than he did by having his wood fired kiln going tonight, the last night of Dillsboro's Lights and Luminaires Festival.  Not only was it toasty warm to stand by but the fiery vignettes were too good to pass up and made for some smokin' hot photo ops.   This is a photo of one of the openings at the bottom of the kiln, I took several shots of other angles which I'll get off the camera over the next couple of days.  I'm really glad he chose tonight to … (14 comments)

dillsboro nc: Tuckasegee River Travel Trailer Park Tree People - 12/08/12 10:01 PM
Obviously they've lived at the Tuckasegee River Travel Trailer Park for a good long time.  How I've missed them, I'll never know.  I'll bet I go by this park at least once a week.  Tree Dudes and Dudettes are always unique and among my favorite subjects.  This was my first time ever to interview Trailer Park Tree People.   They were very pleasant and quiet, like most of the other subjects in the Tree Dude series.  Like their human counterparts who live in travel trailers, they were a little flashier than most I've met but I wouldn't say tacky...there was … (9 comments)

dillsboro nc: Friday and Some Farmhouse Fall Flower Fotos...1004 Tunnel Mountain Rd - 11/16/12 01:41 PM
Here it is ... Friday and I can't believe that Thanksgiving is next week.  When we were in retail we always knew when the holidays were, not so much in real estate.    I spent the afternoon getting new photos of a couple of our listings to refresh the presentations.   When I was reviewing them this evening, I discovered I'd taken more fall flower fotos the other day while showing the farmhouse at 1004 Tunnel Mountain Road.  That listing has gotten unbelievable attention and it feels like we should see an offer before too long!  Have a great weekend.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ … (10 comments)

dillsboro nc: Reintroduction of the Elk - Oconoluftee Farm Museum and Homestead - 10/25/12 10:46 PM
The best reason to have visitors in our area is that it makes us become tourists in one of our nation's favorite playgrounds.  The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway are two of the most visited outdoor attractions in the U.S.  The other day, we took my mother and brother to Gatlinburg, TN which is only a little more than an hour and a half from Dillsboro, NC.  I hoped before the day was over we'd get a chance to see elk in the park which were reintroduced to Western North Carolina back in 2001.   … (10 comments)

dillsboro nc: Magnolia at the Farmhouse Outside of Dillsboro, NC - 10/23/12 12:47 PM
The farmhouse just outside of Dillsboro, NC is getting so much interest that my car is on auto pilot when I go show it!  It looks great too.  That huge and marvelous magnolia out in the backyard is sporting some new seed pods.  Every season that I'm out at the farmhouse property I'm seeing something different happening on that tree.  Whoever the new owner turns out to be should have just as much fun as I do enjoying the Magnolia's seasonal activity.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~     … (13 comments)

dillsboro nc: Generations of Volunteers in the Historic Town of Dillsboro, NC - 10/19/12 10:28 PM
Many of the buildings in the historic Town of Dillsboro, NC have flower boxes on the front.        For generations, merchants have been planting pansies in the boxes to brighten the town up.  Shirley's Boutique in Cannon's Corner...at the corner of Church Street and Front Street is no exception.        Over the 30 or so years she's been there, Shirley has been planting pansies and every year like clockwork the little volunteers pop up at the base of her building.     It's a nice notion to think that these volunteers are … (5 comments)

dillsboro nc: Bee Lazy in the Fall at the Farmhouse at 1004 Tunnel Mountain Rd - 10/10/12 10:53 PM
The farmhouse on Tunnel Mountain Road is getting a massive amount of attention over the last couple of months.  Inquiries received via phone and email have resulted in a goodly number of showings, so I've been out there quite a bit recently.   One of the best things about the farmhouse property is that no two months are the same.  The plantings, blooms, leaves, bugs, everything is different each time I go out there.  The sellers were masters of plant strategy when they planned the gardens.  I'd rather forget my electronic key than my camera when I show property there!  … (11 comments)

dillsboro nc: Watch Where You're Going ! - Especially in Dillsboro, NC - 10/09/12 10:26 PM
Watch where you're going is a common admonishment given by parents to children to keep them from absentmindedly stepping off a curb into traffic or bashing into a display of crystal.  It's rarely a positive suggestion to observe the beauty that surrounds us.  Unfortunately, sometimes I'm more concerned with the beauty around me that I probably do run a real risk of stepping off a curb into traffic or walking directly into a mudhole.  Oh well, we all have our burdens to bear!   We've been in business in one way or another in Dillsboro, NC for better than twenty … (10 comments)

dillsboro nc: Showcasing NC Talent - Things to Do in the Mountains of Western NC - 10/07/12 04:15 AM
It is very early in the fall season and already there are so many Things to Do in the mountains of Western North Carolina.   Yesterday (Saturday) was a great time to be in the mountains of Western North Carolina.  We went to two Fall Festivals.  The first was in Dillsboro, NC and it was the first time the Colorfest was hosted in Dillsboro.  There seemed to be about 40 vendors, local craftspeople and artisans...all demonstrating their crafts.  The vendors were tucked in all the nooks and crannies that the historic Town of Dillsboro has to offer.  Situating the artists … (16 comments)

dillsboro nc: The Pretty Side of Rain - Wordless Wednesday - 10/03/12 12:57 PM
One of the prettiest things about good heavy rains might just be the drops of rain resting on the flowers.  This yellow bloom was loving the moisture just outside Bradley's General Store in Dillsboro.      We just learned that Bradley's has a brand new owner which is very positive news.  We've also learned that the Dillsboro Smokehouse has a new owner.  Always good to hear about people feeling positive about the economy. … (16 comments)

dillsboro nc: That Which Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger...And Smarter ! - 09/14/12 11:07 PM
Four of the best buyers I’ve worked with I met in Leslie’s retail store in Dillsboro.
They were looking for vacant land…50 plus acres in the NC mountains. Price didn’t matter. They were hands on. No drive-bys, we walked land in blistering heat and freezing cold. We bonded and to this day they’re some of my favorite people.
We finally identified THE property, an old farmhouse on 100 plus acres in Barkers Creek. An agent with the company I worked with at the time was in the process of listing this estate. Six siblings and spouses ages 50 to 80. Everyone … (25 comments)

dillsboro nc: High Falutin' Conference Call in Smalltown USA ~ We Are Still Laughing - 09/11/12 10:23 AM
We are still laughing.  We are small town but we are sophisticated and resourceful.  Dillsboro, NC was the scene today of a high falutin' conference call.  It was a master mind conversation.  I was on my cell phone talking with one of my favorite REALTORS who aren't me...Dave Rowland in Franklin, NC.  We were discussing the status of a deal we have under contract.  Dave posed a question that only our buyer's attorney would know the answer to.  He asked us to call the attorney and see if we could get clarification.   Leslie picked up the office phone and called … (13 comments)
