nc: Famous Last Words...Won't Last Long - 07/28/14 09:59 PM
The past week or so has been filled with looking at listings that have uhmmm "matured" in the "Days on Market" category.  The buyers I'm working with are interested in houses with character and personality and while there is something to be said for brand new and probably worry free houses, they often do lack in individuality...especially in the $200,000 or less price range.  We've seen some incredible houses...some are incredibily cool, some are incredibly awful and some are just pure head scratchers.  Many of them however have shared a common and unfortunate tag line in the very old (275 to … (36 comments)

nc: More Reasons Buyers Benefit from Using a Buyer's Agent - 07/24/14 10:08 PM
It wasn't where we started but we did close yesterday. It can happen but it is pretty rare that a buyer selects the first house they see. Also, it can happen that a buyer will go under contract more than once before they finally close on a home...but thankfully that is rare also. We just got done working one of those rare occasions and have another anecdotal instance to add to our many reasons buyers benefit from using a Buyer's Agent.   Our client originally called in to see one of our own listings that turned out not to be … (9 comments)

nc: Some Listings Defy the Confines of MLS - 18 Plott Drive, Sylva, NC - 06/25/14 02:23 PM
Some listings defy the confines of the MLS template. Many times a house and property are much more awesome than can be described in a static 1000 characters or less. There can be intricate and critical information about the property that just doesn’t fit in the check boxes or pre-formatted search criteria. Welcome to the MoonDancer Realty listing located at 18 Plott Drive in Sylva, NC. This house is truly deserving of the term "unique" in the most positive of ways.

We were lucky to be the agents who first sold the house to the current owners and believe me…it didn’t … (6 comments)

nc: Just $20 a Carload - Shadrack's Magical Christmas Lights-Asheville, NC - 12/19/13 10:03 AM
A nice thing about living in Sylva, NC is that it doesn't take long to get to Asheville when you are feeling like doing something "big city". We did just that last night when we went to see the Shadrack's Christmas Light Show at the AG Center Fairgrounds near the Asheville Airport.   Twenty bucks a car and you get to enter a magical space. It sort of felt like we were at an Electric Light Orchestra concert! As we entered the fairgrounds, a sign directed us to set our radio dial to a certain number and the music began. I … (5 comments)

nc: You Can Dance - 11/17/13 09:21 PM
This morning I woke up thinking about the Renaissance Masquerade Ball that I went to a couple of weeks ago with my friend Laurey-Faye Long (also my favorite potter ever!). The Ball was a fundraiser to build a permanent theater for Asheville's "Montford Park Players", longest running theater group performing live Shakespeare in the Park for almost 40 years.
We had a great time. Fabulous food, drink, entertainment and dancing. Unabashed, crazy dancing probably enhanced by the fact that everyone was masked. The event put me in mind of the MTV video Safety Dance by Men Without Hats. Free … (9 comments)

nc: Always There's Adrenalin, No Two Days Start the Same - 11/04/13 09:54 PM

With the exception of dogs that wake up early, my day never starts the same way twice and that is one of the best parts of a professional career in real estate. The adrenalin never really ever relaxes.   Today, the day started with a response to an initial email to a prospective buyer that they are looking forward to working with MoonDancer Realty. The reason I'm so excited about this couple is that they can't wait to move here. One of them has a new job here but the thrilling part for them is that they never thought … (6 comments)

nc: Real Estate in the Mountains...Someone Has to Do It! Monday Melodies - 09/08/13 10:16 PM
Even in Sylva, NC, real estate can be like a pressure cooker...no regular downtime, we have to grab it when we can. That's where Van Morrison comes in.   It's been like that for more than a month now and its all good. The buyers have been plentiful, intentional and interesting. That's all good but everytime we meet a new buyer, we make sure they understand what they are getting into. That means sharing the lender's information, the Agency Disclosure, and the Buyer Agency Agreement. Then we have a thorough conversation to understand what they are looking for, knowing full well … (5 comments)

nc: Land for Sale in Sylva, NC... Lot 13 in Laurel Ridge-Brushy Fork area - 08/27/13 04:47 AM
People are buying vacant lots to build on in the mountains of western North Carolina again and if you are one of them, we've got a great suggestion. For people wanting a private lot with a good view but close to town, call us and let's go look at Lot 13 in the Laurel Ridge Development in the Brushy Fork area of Sylva.   Brushy Fork Road in the Greens Creek Township is named after the bold and rushing Brushy Fork creek that follows the road all the way to the turn off for the Laurel Ridge Development. I've posted photos … (2 comments)

nc: Just Reduced~42 Joe Pye Lane in Holly Hills Neighborhood of Sylva, NC - 07/10/13 09:33 PM
One of the very best deals on houses in Jackson County, NC could well be our listing at 42 Joe Pye Lane in the Holly Hills community of Sylva. The seller just reduced the price by $15,000 and it is now listed at $185,000.   The Holly Hills community has the distinct advantage of the combination of privacy and awesome access to town of any neighborhood I've seen in Jackson County. Within 5 minutes, one could easily be at either Western Carolina University, Southwestern Community College, the elementary school or Smoky Mountain High School. Equally convenient is the access to … (5 comments)

Nine times out of ten, what so many people are looking for is the "cabin in the woods". The MoonDancer Realty Sylva, NC listing at 2840 Cane Creek Road in Cane Creek Ridge Estates could be exactly what they are dreaming of.   Cane Creek Ridge Estates is located between Waynesville and Sylva in Jackson County, NC off of Blanton Branch Road, making it easy to … (7 comments)

nc: One Level, House for Sale-812 Safari Dr, Wildcat Cove in Sylva, NC - 06/02/13 06:22 AM
Some of our favorite houses to list are the ones that we know the sellers have kept up with all aspects of maintenance. It was a pleasure to list the house at 812 Safari Drive, Sylva, NC in the Wildcat Cove neighborhood. This house looks almost exactly like it did when the seller bought it a few years ago when it was brand new. We should know, we were his Buyer's Agent. I say almost exactly because it actually looks better now. The seller has a true green thumb but since he'd rather be on a golf course that … (0 comments)

nc: A Night On The Town in Sylva, NC...Culture Shock of a Different Nature - 05/31/13 10:37 PM
Good things do come in small packages and Sylva, NC is just like that. Leslie caught an announcement in our local weekly newspaper, The Sylva Herald, the other day about a poetry reading being hosted by Sylva's thriving independent bookstore, City Lights. We felt like having a little culture shock so we decided to have a night on the town in Sylva, NC.   After closing up the MoonDancer Realty office in Dillsboro, NC for the day, I stopped off to see my friend Eric Hendrix and pick up fresh salmon from Eric's Fresh Fish Market on the back street of … (9 comments)

nc: Rick Balliot & Movement Mortgage in Sylva, NC - Good News for Buyers - 05/30/13 09:53 PM
To any buyer who's seriously ready to buy a home in Western North Carolina and to any REALTOR wanting to offer the highest level of service to their buyers, the information we learned from Rick Balliot with Movement Mortgage yesterday at lunch was like the answer to a prayer and very good news for buyers. I say prayer because we've all been there. The contract is in its fourth week, the closing day is supposedly in sight and just as we're praying that everything will be fine we get "The Call". You know what "The Call" is. Usually its from … (1 comments)

nc: Other People's Dream is My Reality-Great Smoky Mountains National Park - 03/08/13 12:57 PM
Going out last Sunday to the Oconoluftee Visitors Center and Farmstead with my friend Tammy, really reminded me how fortunate we are to live in a place that some people can only dream of visiting.      One of the entrances to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is just outside Cherokee, NC which is less than 30 minutes from the house.           One of the biggest reasons that people move to this area from other places is precisely for the reason that they can get to the Smoky Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway just about anytime … (10 comments)

nc: North Carolina Mountain State Fair in Asheville, NC - Friday Fotos - 09/14/12 11:30 AM
The North Carolina Mountain State Fair arrived in Asheville, NC last weekend and we went to join in the fun on Sunday evening.  The weather couldn't have been more perfect, it was sunny and 72 degrees when we got there and it was 58 degrees when we returned home.  No humidity to speak of and no insects.   Our friend April went with us and we ate festival food, looked at the exhibits and rode a couple of the rides.  One of the rides had cars that traveled over top of the Fair on cables.  Leslie and April rode in … (13 comments)

nc: Greens Creek Wildflowers - Friday Fotos - 08/24/12 12:54 PM
It was back out to Greens Creek this morning for day two of the septic evaluation.  The weather started out in the low 60s and a bit misty.  I waited with the guys and the bulldozer for the Health Department to arrive.  In the meantime I found this wildflower growing tall with blooms in several stages all on the same plant.        Not a bad way to spend the morning.     … (14 comments)

nc: Fine as Frog Hair on Wordless Wednesday - 08/22/12 12:55 PM
The insect world is under control here in Balsam, NC lately thanks to some froggy friends.  This is the first year I can remember such a healthy frog population around the house.      Some of them have been here long enough to not scurry away in terror.  They were pretty patient for the photo shoot but I'm sure the flash had to have bothered their little bulging eyes.       They sing all night long and then find a place to sleep during the day.  Must be nice!     … (16 comments)

nc: Bear Left on the Road, Daily Walking is Good for the Soul - 08/04/12 11:57 PM
For many years, I walked on our road daily until stumbling in the dark last year on a small rock . The injury took time to heal and changed my morning schedule…AR blogs took precedence. Balance is important for more than just not stumbling on rocks…I loved walking. It kept me centered, focused & in shape. The routine is good for my soul and body. A week ago for whatever reason, I reached for my walking shoes and started up again. All I can say is Ahhhhhh.
Our road ranks close to perfect for walking. From a visual perspective, it’s serene … (19 comments)
