lexington: Feng Shui This | Scotland and Ireland in Kentucky - 12/13/13 01:56 AM
When I was a little girl I remember my mother's uncle was famous for his temper.  When he felt terribly wronged, and this was fairly often, he would announce that he was "Goin' to the Blue Hole", and away he'd stomp.
I never thought much of it until fairly recently when I visited McConnell Springs, here in Lexington.  It's a small park, in the middle of an industrial area, and the site of the first settlement of Lexington.  This is where Lexington, Kentucky got its name in 1775.   There is a beautiful deep spring there called, "The Blue Hole".  With … (3 comments)

lexington: Starbucks Treat - 07/11/10 09:51 AM

Here in Lexington we have a Starbucks where the management has thoughtfully planted Blackeyed Susans for those of us who use the drive-thru.  I don't know if they realized that their flowers would be only part of the show for us.
If I hadn't looked down at the beautiful flowers at the drive-thru; If the flowers hadn't been found by this little bird; I would have simply bought my coffee and moved on down the road.  Instead, I got to watch this little guy enjoying his feast of seeds, and it made my day so much brighter.
Thank you little bird.

lexington: Why Should I Invest My Savings in Farmland? - 09/15/09 01:48 PM
Why should I invest my savings in farmland?
Banks are going down the proverbial toilet, Stocks can't be counted on anymore...who knows what the government is going to do next?  What should you do with your savings before its lost even more value?
Invest in farmland.  It's safe, it's secure, and farmland is getting more scarce by the day.  If you have a good piece of farmland, it's going to be producing an income with the crops it provides, whether you farm it or someone rents it from you.  Managed well, it's going to produce income enough to pay its taxes, as well as give you … (7 comments)

lexington: Feng Shui This - House For Sale in Lexington KY - Your Back Yard - 08/23/09 04:13 PM
Feng Shui This - House For Sale in Lexington KY - Your Back Yard
Have you noticed that when people put their homes up for sale they manage to get the house in order (usually) but forget all about the back yard.  It ends up neglected and cluttered, or bare and desolate.
But, when you watch people walk through a house, after going through the center, they usually gravitate toward the back yard.  They want to see out those curtains, peek through the blinds and see what the back yard offers.
What's will they see when they look into your back … (1 comments)

Feng Shui This - House For Sale in Lexington KY - Pull up a Chair and Sit a Spell
Here in the south (Yes, if you extend the Mason Dixon line Lexington, KY is most certainly south of it.)  when people welcome a guest they often will say, "Pull up a chair and sit a spell."  In the north they would say something more like, "Have a seat."  Of course, I wouldn't know...not being from that part of the country.  But around here if you visit the neighbors you'll hear that phrase regularly.  If your house is for sale, you'll want … (2 comments)

Feng Shui This House For Sale in Lexington - Step Into My Parlor
If you have a house for sale in Lexington or anywhere else, you want to make a good first  impression.  When you open your door, what do you notice first?  Shoes by the door?  Move them!  Coats?  Move them, too!  The "lived in" look is fine, but don't overdo it.  The house should not be a museum for your nick-nacks...you want it to be simple enough inside that others can see themselves living there.  Good feng shui is uncluttered and clean.
Lets check out one on the market now … (0 comments)

Feng Shui This - House For Sale in Lexington KY - Front Porch
Got a house for sale in Lexington?  Here's something you really shouldn't forget.  Feng Shui your front porch!  Drive up to the front of your house and look at it from a buyers perspective.  Does it feel warm and welcoming?  Would you like to sit down with a friend on your front porch?  What about the pot of weeds on the step?  Notice the old leaves by the front door?  See any cobwebs?  How about chipped steps, or wobbly handrails?  Do your hedges need trimming?Has your front porch … (0 comments)

lexington: Lexington KY Vietnamese and Cajun at the Fusion Cafe- - 08/02/09 01:27 PM
Lexington KY Vietnamese and Cajun at the Fusion Cafe
Yes, you can find great Vietnamese and Cajun food in Lexington, KY.  The Fusion Cafe at 919 Winchester Road in Lexington, KY has one of the most interesting menus in town. The Nguyen family has operated this little gem since April of 2006, offering a variety of foods.   Their Pho (traditional Vietnamese noodle soup) gets rave reviews!  But, they also serve some great Cajun food as well.
Every time I go in I'm met by smiling, helpful members of the Nguyen family.  It's a warm, friendly place and I feel very lucky to live close … (2 comments)

lexington: Feng Shui This---Top 12 Cities - 04/24/09 02:17 AM
Relocate America has ranked Lexington in the top 12 cities of their annual list of top 100 places to live in the US.  Well, we knew that all along!  The Bluegrass State has always been a great place to live, and Lexington is front and center.  We have everything you need right here...moderate climate, fine universities, a world class medical school, entertainment, industry, and of course, the finest horse farms in the world.  It's all here.  Why look anywhere else?

This group of yearlings near Keeneland thinks I have carrots.  Maybe they're right this time!

lexington: Feng Shui of Calumet Farm - 10/06/08 05:05 PM

The horses are running at Keenland.  It's time to bring up the seemingly odd pairing of horses and feng shui.  For a long time now I've been working on the feng shui of horse farms...figuring out whether the space in the house, farm office, and barn is being used correctly.  And, what exactly would be good feng shui for a horse farm anyway?  By studying Calumet and other historic farms, I've determined what flying stars will help create a great horse, and what will help that horse win.

I now have some very important data through the help of … (3 comments)

lexington: Lexington's Secret Hamburg Treasure - 07/16/08 07:14 AM

Nestled in the woods just below Walmart and Lowes at Hamburg is a beautiful little creek made for hunting tadpoles.  One day soon there will be a park here, but for now those of us who want to visit this special place have to "sneak in" and enjoy it without the crowds and picinic tables.
I went there today to hunt tadpoles for my own backyard pond, and found it to be a beautiful little oasis in the city.  A crow circled above and fussed at me for disturbing his world while I chased the tadpoles and crawdads.  Crows are … (1 comments)
