jennifer hartwick: Mud Room offers special hours during Columbia Public Schools Spring Break 2009 - 03/18/09 03:18 PM
The Mud Room is a place to explore your creative side while painting decorative and functional ceramics.  A special place for the kids to paint a master piece and for ladies to enjoy a Moms night out.  An experience for the whole family!  Our favorite anniversary presents for grandparents are platters with the kids handprints.  The Mud Room staff are excellent at helping get that perfect handprint with a "tickle" of paint on hands.
Columbia public schools will be on Spring Break next week and the Mudroom is offering the following Spring Break specials.

jennifer hartwick: There are high speed Internet options for rural living - 03/03/09 02:57 PM
I work from home so the internet has become a necessity in our house.  My husband finally got himself a laptop and tears came to my eyes the first time I got an e-mail from him.  My daughters received Webkinz for Christmas, so we now have a new daily ritual of checking on their Webkinz world.
Although we live in the country we are only 6 miles outside of Columbia.  When we first moved into our house, dial up was our only internet option.  Then Wild Blue internet was offered by our local electric co-op.  It cost us approx. $300 for the … (1 comments)

jennifer hartwick: Cooking Salmon in the Dishwasher? Anyone? - 11/01/08 03:22 PM
I'm trying to shake up our dinner menus so I've been spending time on internet sites looking for fresh and new dinner ideas to serve my family.  I tried a macaroni puff dish the other day, that didn't go over very well.  Even my not picky child liked it.
I found this recipe on the web on how to cook Salmon in the dishwasher.  Really?  Has anyone ever tried this?  I would be afraid that the water would get in the foil?
Salmon ala Dishwasher

jennifer hartwick: Current Housing Market Statistics for Columbia, Missouri- Sept/October 2007/2008 - 10/27/08 04:46 PM
I was visiting with one of my sellers the other day about our local market.  She had been talking to another person in her neighborhood who also has their home listed.  Her neighbor had gone into detail about a conversation they'd had with their agent.  A conversation on how in the same month in 2007, 800 houses closed and this month only 140 houses had closed in Columbia.
I said, "Ms. Seller, that information isn't correct.  Let me pull up the true stats for listings with a Columbia address and then we can talk about it.  During the same month in 2007, 125 … (2 comments)

When the husband of a friend from our local MOMS Club group was deployed she had two little ones at home and a third on the way.  She didn't have family that lived locally but our group does what we can to support each other.  We carpooled to school and helped with what we could.
One thing we struggled providing was help with yard care.  She a two year old in the house and was far along in a pregnancy so trying to spend the afternoon on a riding mower was pretty much impossible.  I called so many different organizations trying to locate help and I learned … (0 comments)

jennifer hartwick: Welcome to Columbia, Missouri: Outside Magazines Number 10 for "Best Towns" - 07/04/08 10:51 AM
Columbia, Missouri scored the number 10 spot in Outside magazines "Best Towns" spot in August 2008 issue.  Some of the reasons noted were alternative travel options (mostly cycling) and beautiful, natural surroundings that residents enjoy and maintain in a sustainable way.   Another reason for the popularity is the revitalization of downtown Columbia.  Downtown restaurants, shopping and local festivals add to the allure this area provides to the residents of our city and county.  Welcome to Columbia!
