Have you ever dreamed of having a four season Maine vacation lakefront home, but could never stretch the budget far enough to make it happen? Have you ever thought that to get the kind of vacation home that you'd really like you'd have to spend a minimum of $400,000 and that was a price you could not afford?
Well, there is no free lunch and great Maine vacation homes on the water at unreasonably low prices do not exist, at least to my knowledge. However, there may be a property out there that affords many of the features you crave without … (0 comments)

If you're on vacation in Harrison, Maine, perhaps staying at a nice lakeside cottage or cabin, there's no better compliment to that two pound lobster or burger on the grill than a nice ear of corn or grilled vegetable mix made from the fresh produce available at Frosty Hollow Farm.
Casual and welcoming, Frosty Hollow Farm has been serving repeat customers of the Oxford Hills and Greater Bridgton Lakes Region area for 29 years.
Richard and Laurie Jennings purchased the farm in October of 1980. Today they own 20 acres and their farm stand on Route 117 in Harrison and another … (0 comments)

harrison: By Car or By Boat - It's the Village Tie-Up on Long Lake in Harrison, Maine - 08/06/09 05:45 AM
Imagine giving up your job to live, work and play on the lakefront of Long Lake in Harrison.
Working for years in sales and marketing in the corporate world took a toll on Kristen and Shawn Walker. Because they both traveled a lot for business, they felt like they were two ships passing in the night.
To remedy that, they decided to search on-line for a business where they could work together. Through this search they stumbled upon the Village Tie-Up Market and Deli on Main Street in Harrison. At the end of September 2007, the Walkers purchased the store from … (0 comments)

harrison: How to Become a "Regular" in Maine's Sebago Lake Region - 06/25/09 10:44 PM
Throughout the Sebago Lakes Region of western Maine are many small "mom and pop" establishments; places where you can purchase just about anything from coffee to kerosene, falafel to fly swatters, beer to backscratchers, t-shirts to Tiparillos. More than that, though, these are places where people come and get more than just their purchase.
It's here where folks are waiting to greet you with jokes, share a dose of gossip, and talk about current events. Here you can find advice and directions to anything that's worth doing, as well as the how, what, where and when to do it.

harrison: Crystal Lake Will Float Your Boat in Harrison, Maine - 05/08/09 01:41 PM
When I was a boy I had a rowboat on Crystal Lake in Harrison. What a sense of independence it gave me to sit in that boat, out on the water, oars pulled in, fishpole out, watching the traffic go by on Rte. 117 and enjoying a fisheye view of the camps and cottages that dotted the shoreline.
The boat had belonged to my Uncle Hank, who died when I was ten. My Dad was his closest relative and had to settle the estate, which bascially consisted of a big old house in bad repair in the village, an attached barn, … (0 comments)

harrison: Crystal Lake in Harrison the Site of Ice Harvesting in Saturday - 02/20/09 11:27 AM
Crystal Lake in Harrison is normally the setting for swim lessons, picnic lunches and softball at the adjacent ballfield. But tomorrow, Crystal Lake will be the site of something very old fashioned and interesting - ice harvesting.
Harrison local Bill Winslow will have his draft horses out and they will provide a lot the muscle for the heavy lifting that takes place after the ice has been cut into 250 lb. blocks, pulled out of the water with tongs, and loaded onto the horse-drawn sledge that will convey the ice to the icehouse nearby.
An antique, gas generated, motor powers a wild-looking … (0 comments)

harrison: Maine Waterfront Property on Long Lake - An Embarrassment of Riches - 01/10/09 05:04 AM
While this general geographic area where we live and work is called the Sebago Lake Region (and rightly so), anyone familiar with this area knows there are several somewhat smaller lakes that are equally beautiful and desireable. The short list would include Kezar Lake, Long Lake, and Thompson Lake. I grew up in Harrison and live there now and so have a special affinity for Long Lake.
Long Lake is 11 miles long, a mile or so wide, deep and clean -  a band of shimmering silver and blue stretching north to south from Harrison to Naples. It's many attributes have … (0 comments)

harrison: Maine Waterfront Property on Long Lake, Harrison - Looking at Attributes - 03/10/08 08:09 AM
There's a recent listing that came to my attention that I thought I'd share. I happen to live near this place and know the lake pretty well. This two bedroom camp may not be the Taj Mahal, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm. Property on Long Lake tends to be pretty pricey, but this year-round camp lists for $439,900 and has a very generous 285 feet of waterfront.
Generally waterfront lots run 100 feet on the water, so this lot gives you almost three times what you would normally expect to get as far as frontage … (0 comments)
