Heating water consumes about 13 percent of the annual bill for the typical single-family home, says EnergyStar.
It you’re not ready to invest in a new, more efficient water heater, there are still steps you can take to cut your water heating costs.
1. Reduce the temperature. Set the temperature on your water heater to 120ºF. For every 10ºF reduction in temperature, you can save from 3% to 5% on your water heating costs.

The National Association of Realtors, The Mortgage Bankers’ Association, Freddie Mac and Fannie Maeare all projecting that home sales will increase in 2017. Here is a chart showing what each entity is projecting in sales for this year and the next.

As we can see, each is projecting sizable increases in home sales next year. If you have considered selling your house recently, now may be the time to put it on the market.

grayslake: Happy Labor Day - 09/04/16 05:57 AM

We work hard, stressful, long and often odd hours in real estate. So this year, I suggest we all take the day off and commit to ourselves, and our significant others, that we will "not work today". Of course, this will backfire and all but guarantee local market questions fly through the air faster than beer caps, but at least we can do so while wearing shorts and eating BBQ deliciousness.
 
So, on that note, from our family to yours, Happy Labor Day.

#Grayslake homeowners will be glad to know, the good news continues.  
Average Home Price:
The average home price in Grayslake back in January 2014 was hovering around $206K (Jan 13 was $178K) while today we have climbed up to $214K.  The chart below illustrates very clearly how this has been a multi year trend and given recent unemployment data would suggest we can feel confident in it continuing.
 

 
Average Market Time:
Grayslake homeowners will also be glad to hear that the average time on market continues to remain low, averaging just 75 days.  While this has remained relatively flat throughout the year … (0 comments)

If you're a home owner in #Grayslake then the following chart should make you happy. The average home price has gained +12.3% year over year. Not bad considering we are still working within a precarious macro economy.

 
Now lets take a look at the average time on market.  Year-over-year Grayslake has managed to decrease the average market time by over 27%.  That is a remarkable improvement considering all the headwinds Lake County's economy has to deal with.  If you list your home with a broker today, you should expect the average time to be at only 87 days.
