Several friends in other states have texted, emailed, or phoned, to see if I am impacted by California's wildfires and power shutoffs. I want to let everyone who is wondering, know I am fine, as is most of Sacramento. The wildfires are a distance away from our city, and we are very fortunate to not rely on PG&E for electrical power, so the shutoffs are not affecting us here. Thank goodness we have Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), a rate payer owned utility. Smoke from Northern California wildfires, especially the “Camp” fire, which pretty much destroyed the entire town of Paradise, has filled our part of the Sacramento Valley for several days now. The air has been deemed in the “Very Unhealthy” range, and we are advised to curtail outdoor activities as much as possible. Most Greater Sacramento schools have been closed.

Those who know me also know I usually swim laps. However, because of health advisory warnings, I haven’t swam in several days. I began using the extra time to do cleanup chores around the house in preparation for my family … (23 comments)

Sadly the pictures below aren’t a testament to California skies since the legalization of pot. Nor, do they contain images of sweet moisture filled mists bringing respite to a rain parched state. Unfortunately, they are photos snapped yesterday morning in the Greater Sacramento Region, currently impacted by heavy smoke from an out of control wildfire more than 90 miles away. The “Camp” fire has raged through the town of Paradise and has destroyed an entire community.  It is reported as the most devastating in California history.
