If you were to take Jackson Road-Highway 16 out of Sacramento, while traveling mostly east, but a tad south for a half hour or so, you would come upon the delightfully rural community of Sloughhouse.
Although the community is quiet and somewhat small, it does enjoy rich history.
This past Sunday, when my grandson and I were returning home from a delightful daytrip to Indian Grinding Rock State Park in nearby Amador County, we did what so many Sacramentans who shuffle through Sloughhouse do. (Slide Show has 10 images) A few days back, I was on a hunt for really fresh produce for a family gathering on Saturday evening. Normally, I would select really fresh vegetables and fruit at the Sunrise Boulevard Farmer's Market held on Saturday mornings. However, I wanted to be up cooking, really early, and feared running to market the morning of the event, would cut time short. About a half hour or so, after one drives east, but a tad south on Jackson Road (Highway 16) out of Sacramento, folks come upon the delightfully rural community of Sloughhouse. If you were to take Jackson Road-Highway 16 out of Sacramento, while traveling mostly east, but a tad south for a half hour or so, you would come upon the delightfully rural community of Sloughhouse. Although the community is quiet and somewhat small, it does enjoy rich history. As Sacramentans and other visitors to the area shuffle through Sloughhouse today, they often stop at the Davis Ranch Farmer's Market for ears of corn, which is prized among locals as being the best available.
