fair oaks: Remembering Teen Idol Fabian Forte From the American Bandstand Era - 05/23/14 01:36 AM
To say I've been busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest lately would be an understatement.  However, there have been delightful lunch and dinner opportunities with friends and family.
In the Greater Sacramento community of Fair Oaks, exists a delightful bistro by the name of Fabian's.  For those who have shuffled around the planet long enough to remember teen idol, Fabian Forte of the 1950s and 60s American Bandstand era, this is your place!
Fabian's is owned and operated by husband and wife Christian (Fabian's son) and Mercedes Forte,
Fabian's presents a tapestry of traditional Italian fare for breakfast, lunch and … (23 comments)

fair oaks: Mikuni's Sushi Bar - Among the Best Sushi in Greater Sacramento - 05/05/14 07:28 AM
It’s always a treat when I visit Mikuni’s Sushi Bar and Restaurant in the Greater Sacramento community of Fair Oaks.  They create some of the best Sushi in the Sacramento Valley.  My favorite is the Fair Oaks Roll made with Panko shrimp, avocado, sauce, masago and onion.  But, other Rolls and their Bento Box combinations, are pretty amazing too!
On my last visit, I sampled the Sea Steak, along with and absolutely mesmerizing dish labeled, “Flaming Shrooms” – Tempura mushrooms with crab mix, cream cheese, jalapenos, and a special sauce.
What grabbed my attention however, was the animation created atop the … (17 comments)

fair oaks: The BIG Question – How Much Should I Offer? - 07/30/11 10:30 AM
It isn’t unusual for a real estate professional to walk through several houses with Homebuyers, before they hear the question, “How much should I offer?”The question isn’t always one that comes with an easy answer.  Here’s why:If the desired home is in a neighborhood of unique custom homes, with different styles, construction grade, amenities and upgrades, value can sometimes be more illusive to precisely determine.  But still there are available tools that can assist you, with the help of your real estate agent in attempting to determine home value. The criteria used as tools to determine this are basically, (1) Property Condition … (18 comments)

fair oaks: Just Because You Can't See Them Doesn't Mean They Aren't There - 04/06/11 02:55 PM
(Slide show has 15 photos)
Cradled quietly in the Greater Sacramento community of Fair Oaks, is the natural treasure I have blogged about in past years.  The Phoenix Park Vernal Pools are an ever-changing canvas each spring.  Sacramento is emerging from a long and relentless winter.  At the first signs of warmth and sunshine, the vernal pools once again burst with life.  The pools are relatively close to my home - within 5 miles, so I try to visit several times each season to witness nature as artist adding paint strokes and colors to the masterpiece. The scenes in this slide show … (36 comments)

fair oaks: All Are Welcome At Nana’s House on the 4th of July - 07/04/10 01:19 AM
One photo - No slide
My family is home for the holiday.  I am always surprised how this house is quiet so much of the time - almost like a sanctuary!  But when everyone comes home, it becomes packed with raw energy. When daughter Tami arrived, with granddaughters, Isabella and Sophi, they also came with an agenda of finding a new pet bunny.  Within a short time, they were cruising Craig's List on my computer and looking for a furry friend.  A couple hours later, the body count at Nana's had increased by 1.

fair oaks: Life Really Does Have Alternative Realities - 06/26/10 10:44 AM
(Slide Show contains 11 images)
I have shuffled around this planet long enough to know a gal needs to always have a "Plan B" simmering on the back burner.  Because as John Lennon said, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans."I've often wondered what I would do at this stage in my life, if a big disaster came, wiped me out financially, destroyed my home, and life as I know it!  Would I attempt to start all over again to recreate what I had, or would I do something totally different. The answer is I would likely do things … (25 comments)

fair oaks: Keeping Them Rolling During a Budgetary Crisis - 06/23/10 02:55 PM

It is certainly no secret that many states and communities have struggled with budgetary constraints in the last few years.  Police and Fire departments have been especially hit. However, I found possible evidence, on the streets of one Greater Sacramento Community, that a local fire department is doing a great job keeping some older vehicles in its fleet rolling:-)It really put a smile on my face!
I take pictures for the purpose of remembering fond times.  I do not impose copyright restrictions on this photo, so you may feel free to use, or distribute as you wish.  However, should you need a Real … (23 comments)

This year, it all started in March, when I began to watch and photograph the continual changes at Phoenix Park Vernal Pools in the Greater Sacramento community of Fair Oaks.  I had taken photographs and blogged a piece titled, "Just Because You Can't See Them Doesn't Mean They Aren't There."I returned again on May 7th - almost one month ago from today, hoping to see how the pools were progressing.  In early May, we had a lot of rain and it was remaining unseasonably cool in Sacramento.  There still was no signs of any marine life … (21 comments)

fair oaks: The Elusive but Beautiful Life at California Vernal Pools - 05/07/10 08:54 AM

(slide show contains 14 images)
A couple months ago, I blogged a piece titled, "Just Because You Can't See Them Doesn't Mean They aren't There" - about Greater Sacramento Area Vernal Pools, located in the community of Fair Oaks.
In March, I was in a desperate search for sunshine and spring.  Sacramento's winter had been long and relentless, and any sign of warmth, flowers and life, emerging once again would have been a welcome sight.  At the time, I had found a great deal of water in the ponds, but few flowers lined the banks.
This morning, I suspected it was time to revisit the … (30 comments)
