fiddletown: After the Storm, a Pleasant Drive - 01/30/21 02:07 PM
After a few days of high winds, and extremely ugly weather here in Sacramento, the sun and blue skies peeking through the kitchen window this morning, were a welcome sight.  It was a pleasant opportunity for my grandson Baron and I to find a seat in the car and go for a little drive.
There was no particular destination in mind, but somehow, we found our way to the little Gold Rush town of Fiddletown.
Cradled in the rolling hills of Amador County, Fiddletown is a restful place, that allows a few steps back in time.  The sleepy little 1850s settlement is … (28 comments)

Fiddletown was a trading center for nearby mining camps and surrounding Shenandoah Valley farms, from about … (22 comments)

fiddletown: Fiddletown - A California Gold Rush Town - 10/24/11 03:54 PM

It is no secret that I have a love of exploring little California Gold Rush towns within an hour or so of Sacramento.  In the past, I have tossed my cameras in the car and headed off to capture several of them to pixels, that I have written about in previous blogs.
As one travels south on Sunrise Boulevard and veers east on highway 16, there is a meandering through and toward a collection of Gold Rush era settlements and communities along highway 49.  Once through Sloughhouse, there are turnoffs, which will take you on into Ione, Amador City, Sutter Creek, Jackson.  … (21 comments)
