folsom: The Kind of Day That Spoils Us - 03/01/13 11:29 AM
This was an amazing pre-spring day in Greater Sacramento.  Temps reached into the mid 70s.  Adding to the delight – My grandkid, Macie, had a shorted school day.  It was easy conjuring how to spend the treasured spare time.
My daughter Jill, Macie and I, enjoyed a tasty lunch on the outdoor deck of Q’Bole, in Old Town Folsom.  Q’Bole has tasty and really authentic Mexican dishes.  The three of us ordered up the fish tacos, with a special sauce – a mixture of avocado, limejuice, sour cream, and some secret ingredient I need to try to wheedle out of them the … (19 comments)

folsom: Arched Beauties - 04/13/12 10:11 PM
Late yesterday afternoon, my daughter Jill, eleven-year old granddaughter Macie, and I, were driving through the Greater Sacramento city of Folsom.  It had been a crazy weather day, and within a short span of a few minutes there had been heavy rains, hail, and then a parting of the clouds and ultimately rainbows.  Folsom’s landscape is situated at the feet of the Sierra Nevada Foothills, and rainbows there, and at nearby El Dorado Hills often make spectacular scenes.  Many of us have experienced a double rainbow, but this was actually a triple rainbow.  While I drove to our destination, my daughter … (25 comments)

folsom: Old Town Folsom Celebrates the Holidays - 12/05/10 10:29 AM
(Slide show has 11 images)
There was a lull in the storms rolling through the Greater Sacramento region earlier today.  It was a welcome sight.  I grabbed my camera, jumped in the car and headed up the highway a tad, to Old Town Folsom. In summer, I blogged a piece titled, "Legendary Old Town Folsom's Sutter Street."  The pictures provided at the time, were somewhat unsettling, as the streets were tore up, and bulldozers appeared to be tearing up Hell and putting a chunk under it.However, a nearby conceptual drawing, provided a glimpse of wonderful things to come. The project of updating the … (25 comments)

folsom: Legendary Old Town Folsom’s Sutter Street - 08/26/10 12:36 PM
(Slide show has 7 images)
We've had a couple hot 100+ degree Greater Sacramento days.  And to quote a line from the Danny De Vito movie, "Throw Mamma From The Train", the evenings have been warm and sultry.  While sitting out on the back lawn last night, watching the moon get fuller, I remembered a tale I heard recently, about Historic Sutter Street, in Old Town Folsom. Earlier this month, I began hearing rumors about Legendary Folsom Tunnels, which were rediscovered and are to be preserved.  The tales surrounding the tunnels which are not simple cave structures, but are actual arched tunnels … (25 comments)

folsom: Tranquil Scenes Along Sacramento's American River - 08/11/10 08:15 AM
(Slide Show has 8 images)
It seems every few days or so, I feel compelled to blog about how fortunate I feel living in the Greater Sacramento Area.  We are rich in nature areas, wonderful attractions, activities, and events to keep an active mind inspired and satisfied. This past weekend, I spent time with three of my granddaughters.  The agenda was to return to the American River Parkway, to catch a glimpse of the deer herd that dwells in a certain area of the 22 mile stretch along the American River, between Old Sacramento, and Folsom.  We also planned a little berry picking while … (35 comments)

folsom: All Are Welcome At Nana’s House on the 4th of July - 07/04/10 01:19 AM
One photo - No slide
My family is home for the holiday.  I am always surprised how this house is quiet so much of the time - almost like a sanctuary!  But when everyone comes home, it becomes packed with raw energy. When daughter Tami arrived, with granddaughters, Isabella and Sophi, they also came with an agenda of finding a new pet bunny.  Within a short time, they were cruising Craig's List on my computer and looking for a furry friend.  A couple hours later, the body count at Nana's had increased by 1.

folsom: Life Really Does Have Alternative Realities - 06/26/10 10:44 AM
(Slide Show contains 11 images)
I have shuffled around this planet long enough to know a gal needs to always have a "Plan B" simmering on the back burner.  Because as John Lennon said, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans."I've often wondered what I would do at this stage in my life, if a big disaster came, wiped me out financially, destroyed my home, and life as I know it!  Would I attempt to start all over again to recreate what I had, or would I do something totally different. The answer is I would likely do things … (25 comments)

folsom: Keeping Them Rolling During a Budgetary Crisis - 06/23/10 02:55 PM

It is certainly no secret that many states and communities have struggled with budgetary constraints in the last few years.  Police and Fire departments have been especially hit. However, I found possible evidence, on the streets of one Greater Sacramento Community, that a local fire department is doing a great job keeping some older vehicles in its fleet rolling:-)It really put a smile on my face!

Folks living in the Greater Sacramento area, often use Memorial Day weekend, as the benchmark, for putting on their sandals, and kick-starting summer.  Because this has been an unusual year - weather wise, I know my family is looking forward to this event, which is just a few days away.Sacramento is fortunate enough to have so many valuable recreational resources at its back door - especially along the American River. The paved American River Bike Trail is an amazing 33-mile ride, which hugs the river from Old Sacramento to Folsom Lake.  Although much of The American River Parkway … (19 comments)

folsom: Folsom’s Gold Rush Era Old Town to Have Face Lift - 01/24/10 09:50 AM

Residents of Folsom are excited about ground breaking yesterday, which began major construction to revitalize historic Old Folsom.Old Town Folsom has been one of my favorite destinations for nearly a lifetime.  Steeped in rich Gold Rush era history and haunts.  It exists along the American River, just 7 miles from my home. Folsom is much more than a prison town made famous by Johnny Cash and his song, "Folsom Prison Blues."  It's a California Gold Rush town, a Railroad Town, and was the Western Terminus of the Pony Express.  We also have Folsom Lake and Folsom Dam.Old Town Folsom has remained … (19 comments)
