myrl jeffcoat: You Know What They Say About Assuming - 04/02/12 10:35 PM
There are some mornings you wake up, and need a chuckle to jumpstart your day.
The pictures below provide an example of why parents should ALWAYS check homework before their kids hand it in:
A first grader handed in the drawing below for a homework assignment.

After it was graded and the child brought it home, she returned to school the next day with the following note:
Dear Ms. Davis,
I want to be very clear on my child's illustration. The drawing is NOT of me on a dance pole on a stage in a strip joint. I work as a real estate … (26 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: Keeping Easter Pleasant for Young and Old - 03/31/12 03:47 AM
With Easter arriving this coming Sunday, I was doing a little digging for baskets, and bunny paraphernalia, in anticipation of the big day!

In the process I came across this really old photo of a couple of my kids from a visitation of Easter, in the distant past.
Hindsight is 20/20, and you might consider exercising caution while taking tots to visit the guy with the long ears and whiskers.
I do want you to know the two pictured in this photo have done “reasonably” well in spite of this traumatic adventure!
My son Randy, is now U.S. Navy Retired.  Most of his military years were … (21 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: Young LIfe at Rancho Cordova's Hagan Park - 03/29/12 09:33 AM
Here is living proof that spring is in the air.  A visit to Hagan Community Park in Greater Sacramento’s City of Rancho Cordova, found this little family of ducks doing their thing in one of the local ponds.

Temperatures today in the upper 60s, seemed to elevate spirits of not only the ducks, but wild turkeys and birds.  Delightful Hagan Community Park consists of 75 acres.  The park itself boasts facilities consisting of a Community Center, 3 swimming pools, 8 tennis courts, 8 group picnic areas, 3 baseball fields, 3 soccer fields, basketball court, petting zoo, play grounds, tot lots, fitness course, … (12 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: There's Gold in Them Thar Hills! - 03/26/12 07:40 AM
California is known for the gold discovery, which acted as catalyst for hoards of pioneers and wagon trains finding their way into this state, after James Marshall discovered the golden ore at Sutter’s Mill in 1849.  However, there is another golden treasure in the hills of the California Mother Lode.  Each year at this time, Amador County comes alive with an explosion of yellow Daffodils.
It all happens at Daffodil Hill, cradled in the quaint little Mother Lode town of "Volcano."
The 4 acre farm has been in the McLaughlin family since 1887.  During the past two decades, the family has planted 6,000 … (18 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: The Origin of Homebuyers - 03/20/12 07:40 PM

With the advent of spring, real estate professionals often begin hearing from folks, who are ready to place their homes on the market, and get them SOLD.

It isn’t unusual for home sellers to wonder and question real estate professionals about the origin of homebuyers or where homebuyers come from.  They wonder about the effectiveness of For Sale signs, Open Houses, various marketing and other tools used to sell homes successfully.
It has been estimated that 51% of homebuyers will find a home through their Realtor.
Although 90% of homebuyers will initially look for homes and information via the Internet, only 19% will likely … (34 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: You Want to Buy That House - But How Much Should You Offer - 03/03/12 08:12 AM
It isn’t uncommon for real estate professionals to be asked by their home buying clients, “How much do we need to offer?”

myrl jeffcoat: Echo Summit and Tahoe Basin Scenes - 02/29/12 08:31 AM
Echo Summit, along California’s highway 50 heading east toward Lake Tahoe presents majestic scenes, no matter the time of year.  After leaving the massive rock formations of the summit, the drive begins a descent into the Greater Tahoe Basin, with wonders that never disappoint.
Lake Tahoe offers a number of recreational opportunities year round. In the last photo below, snowmobiling becomes available in winter, on ground completely covered by snow.  What lurks beneath the snow, you wonder.  It is Lake Tahoe Golf Course, which during this season is nowhere to be seen.
In the Tahoe Basin there are several places that offer snowmobiling to … (22 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: Lake Tahoe - A Day Trip Adventure from Sacramento - 02/27/12 05:51 AM
There is something that happens on certain days that seems to come from outside myself.  It is the urge to jump into the car at a moment’s notice, and head off in one of several directions from Sacramento.  The Greater Sacramento Region is the hub of a giant wheel with spokes (roads) that lead to diverse destinations and visual experiences.  My car’s Magellan GPS acts as a bank for these spontaneous outbursts - Even if the getaway is for mere hours.  It’s neat to select a pre-programmed destination, and follow the familiar little GPS voice navigating to places away.
It could easily … (14 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: Money Lessons Learned During Tough Economic Times - 02/26/12 04:15 AM
This past week I learned I lost two very longtime Realtor friends, who worked with me in my beginning years as an agent.  Both passed away within 24 hours of one another.    Pat Meredith was instrumental in taking me under her wing from the moment I walked into that little Century 21 office we shared.  She quietly guided me over to a file cabinet while helping assemble Buyer and Seller packages of documents needed.  She acted as my mentor. Not only was Pat a great Realtor, she also was a tax professional.  I often watched as Pat’s young clients came to her, hoping to buy homes.  Many were … (17 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: Avoiding Dogmatism - 02/22/12 12:53 AM

Maybe because it’s an election year, or perhaps not!  But, I’m really noticing folks dogmatically speaking as if they have much more authority these days.  Proclamations of things being this or that, rather than stating they MAY be this or that, are running rampant.
It’s not just with politicians though. It seems more prevalent in the general population as well.  In this current housing cycle, more than one troubled homeowner has likely heard the sentence, “I CAN save your home.”  Or “I CAN save your credit.”
Most of us know reality is far less exuberant, than using the verb, "CAN" in that context.
Whether you, as a real estate professional gets … (54 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: Implementing the Miraculous to Sell Your Home - 02/20/12 10:38 AM
We are fast approaching spring, traditionally a time when many folks consider putting homes on the market for sale.
In addition, there are home sellers sitting in long unsold houses.  And there are homes that have managed to make their way into escrow, only to see the transaction later fall apart.  Still other properties, which by all logic ought to be on the market for an extended period of time, sell quite rapidly.
A Realtor friend tells a story about a little house she was marketing, on a very busy street.  The house didn't show well, it needed updating, and was also … (18 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: Visiting My Furry Red Panda Friends for Half Price - 02/04/12 12:50 PM
I have been waiting for this day to arrive for a couple weeks now.  After all, today is Sacramento's 14th Annual Museum Day event.  The day is always a crowd pleaser for those seeking FREE or HALF PRICE access and admittance to the participant museums and area attractions.
The temps in Sacramento reached the mid 60s.  Although my original plans had been to take in Crocker Art Museum for FREE, Instead, I opted to take in a little sunshine at the Sacramento Zoo at HALF PRICE.
I hadn’t been to the Sacramento Zoo in several years, and was excited to see the many changes … (23 comments)

myrl jeffcoat: Looking For a Home With Today’s Technology in Mind - 02/03/12 12:12 PM
I make no secret I am happy living in my older 1963 vintage home in an established greater Sacramento neighborhood.  Over the past 25+ years I’ve dwelled here, renovations, updates, and changes have been made.
Newer homes often already have the latest technology or entertainment options, which are important in a home of today, but many older homes have added them over the years, as have I.
If certain technology or entertainment options are important in your new home, and you are in the home buying marketplace, there is a checklist you may need to include in any home search.  They are as … (11 comments)
