sacramento real estate news: Reduced Inventory of Homes Listed FOR SALE in Sacramento Continues - 09/30/12 01:29 PM
Sacramento County housing statistics continue as testament to the shrinking inventory of homes listed for sale in the Greater Sacramento region.  This condition has swiftly moved us from a buyer’s market to a seller’s market.  This trend has continued for several months now.
The following graphs drive home the difference a year has made.  The top graph compare numbers for August 2011 vs. August 2012 “For Sale – Sold – Pended” homes in all of Sacramento County.   The lower graph provides the stats for July 2011 to July 2012. Interest rates continue at historic lows.  Modest home value gains … (15 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Shrinking Inventory - More Homes Went to Pending Than Were Listed in Sacramento - 04/29/12 10:57 PM
If anything demonstrates the current trend of Greater Sacramento Real Estate, it has to be statistics reported by Trendgraphix.  Housing inventory has steadily decreased, while sales entering “pending” status jumped dramatically in March. For example, here are the stats as reported from March 2012, vs. March of 2011:
In March of 2011, pending sales represented less than half of homes listed For Sale.  But in the same month of 2012, pending sales exceeded inventory.
Traditionally, that would label us as in the “Seller’s” market category.  Rumors still prevail about the so-called “shadow inventory” of foreclosed homes held by … (10 comments)

Some days are just worth living more than others.  And this was one of them!
My friend, and fellow ActiveRain blogger, Elizabeth Weintraub had decided a couple of weeks ago that we should get out of Dodge, and head to Yountville in California's Napa Wine Country.  "We can do lunch at The French Laundry," she gushed.  I had heard wonderful things about The French Laundry, but also knew it wasn't open for lunch during the week.  Still, I wanted to go to Yountville since I hadn't been through the little village for several years.  I also … (34 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Do We Need a Catalyst to Live Life to its Fullest? - 05/20/11 08:44 AM

If there is ever a lesson in living life to the fullest, it comes from a warning from a small group on the east coast, who believes the world is coming to an unlikely end tomorrow.  But if were true, it would certainly change everything. There have been these predictions before, and this one certainly doesn't seem to be any different.  If I were a bettin' woman, I'd put my money on most of us waking up just fine on Sunday morning.Still, when I looked at the kitchen pantry this morning, I had initially thought this might be a great day to clean and … (22 comments)

Within hours from now, California's Highway 50 will close over Echo Summit to replace a rock wall. The closure is slated to last two weeks beginning sometime tomorrow - Wednesday, May 11th.  Those planning on visiting Lake Tahoe from the Greater Sacramento area, should plan on taking an alternative route - Either Highway 80 through Auburn, and Truckee, or perhaps take a slower paced but history rich route through spectacular California Gold Country via Highway 88 and El Dorado and Amador County. The highway 88 route from Placerville, will add approximately 51 miles to reach South Lake Tahoe. The calendaring of this … (19 comments)

sacramento real estate news: 22nd Annual "Kid's Day in the Park" Was a Success - 04/30/11 01:14 PM

It was warm and breezy in the Greater Sacramento Region today.   I decided to drive over to Hagan Community Park in Rancho Cordova, to check out the Annual Kids Day event!  The festival hosted approximately 2,000 kids and adults to participate in free kid activities.  The event was bigger this year than ever before. The activities included FREE Sacramento Valley Live Steamers train rides, face painting, music, a raffle for bicycles, petting zoo, hayrides, live stage entertainment - and a variety of other games, activities and GREAT food!Dozens of service organizations were on hand to provide demonstrations and information to assist children … (14 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Money Saving Green Tips to Celebrate Earth Day - 04/22/11 01:52 PM

Although today is Earth Day, Americans are increasingly looking for ways to improve energy efficiency and saving around their homes - Not just in honor of our annual Earth Day observation.   Real energy savings can come with systematically identifying where waste is occurring, and finding remedy for it.  It's not only an Earth Friendly move, but cash saving as well. The first time I had an energy audit performed was back when I first purchased my home 29 years ago.  Shortly thereafter, I added insulation, and in the following years converted to dual pane windows and replaced the HVAC system.  From another energy … (15 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Thrive Where You Hatch - 04/20/11 08:56 AM

The tale that follows here is a true one.  March 23rd was a wet and windy morning.  When Steve, my son-in-law, arrived at his office complex, he quickly noticed two ducks, a male and female (mallards to be exact), standing in the parking lot.   Because the area is along a greenbelt area with ponds, this wasn't an unusual event.  The area is also populated with wild turkeys. But this wasn't going to be just any other ordinary morning.  The female duck was standing by an egg.  Steve approached the egg, thinking he could move it to safer digs at a nearby bush.  Alas, as … (33 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Lenders Reach Settlement With Federal Regulators – But Still Face Probe - 04/14/11 09:17 AM
Yesterday it was announced that some federal regulators had reached settlement with 14 of the nation's largest financial institutions.  The agreement involves banking companies and lenders, led by Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase and Citigroup, which agreed yesterday to compensate borrowers who were wrongly foreclosed upon.  Fine amounts are to be determined later.Officials also disclosed the settlement does not mean an end of a wide-ranging probe into questionable lending practices and wrongful foreclosures.Prospect of an even tougher settlement looms large with a second group that includes all 50 state attorneys general, the Treasury and Justice departments, the Federal … (14 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Enjoying the Good Life Along the American River - 04/13/11 10:23 AM
(Slide show contains 2 images)
This morning, certain areas of the Greater Sacramento region were revisited with light rain showers and partially overcast skies.  However, by noon clouds parted, and the warm sun came through.   Feeling a need for a little fresh air, I walked down to the American River Parkway, and came across scenes that remind us of the current season - including a mama duck with her young. On the shallow shelves of the river, Seagulls perched around the communal spa, as if marinating aches and pains away.  The gulls often populate waters edge in large numbers, when weather is stormy on the … (20 comments)

(single photo - no slide)
Since the Earthquake and tsunami did major damage in Japan, and created catastrophic damage to several Japanese nuclear power plants, concerns have escalated here in the United States, causing folks to reassess nuclear power - it's benefits, and it's dangers.Today, Pacific Gas and Electric, owner of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power complex in California, took an unusual step by asking federal regulators to delay issuing extended operating permits, until comprehensive studies of area earthquake faults are completed.Diablo Canyon sits on a bluff, 85 feet above the Pacific Ocean at Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo County … (23 comments)

(Slide show has 15 photos)
Cradled quietly in the Greater Sacramento community of Fair Oaks, is the natural treasure I have blogged about in past years.  The Phoenix Park Vernal Pools are an ever-changing canvas each spring.  Sacramento is emerging from a long and relentless winter.  At the first signs of warmth and sunshine, the vernal pools once again burst with life.  The pools are relatively close to my home - within 5 miles, so I try to visit several times each season to witness nature as artist adding paint strokes and colors to the masterpiece. The scenes in this slide show … (36 comments)
