lake michigan: Revisiting 2236 Lakeshore Drive, Fennville MI 49408 - 08/19/14 06:43 AM
This house is a 4/3, with 140 feet on Lake Michigan, a great beach and stairs, with beautiful decks and porches all around.  But the rest of the story is this: it is a Carl Hoerman house.  Carl Hoerman (1885-1955), so it says in Painting the Town: A History of Art in Saugatuck and Douglas by Kit Lane, a book from 1997 which is the standard history of art and artists in a community that has had more than its share, was born in Bavaria, studied art in Munich, and came to the United States in 1904.  He studied architecture in … (1 comments)

lake michigan: Lakeshore living - and how to make it yours - 07/15/14 11:05 AM
One thing about Lake Michigan shoreline real estate.  The homes are in a high-price bracket.  That's not to say that they aren't worth it.  I currently have two houses listed in Ganges and Saugatuck Townships that are great deals, each with over one hundred feet of private beach.  Waking up to hear the sound of waves lapping on the water's edge, or watching the sunset from your deck or the beach over the Lake are both truly wonderful experiences.
However, some people want a second home, and they want the lakeshore experience, but an over-a-million-dollar purchase just isn't in the cards … (0 comments)

lake michigan: Oxbow in Saugatuck is quiet and lovely as visiting artists take over in September - 09/20/11 01:23 AM
Oxbow is lovely and the air calm even when it is windy at Oval Beach.  In September artists take up residency to do their own things.
The light is perfect for painting. All the buildings are very charming and some of the leaves have fallen for a better view of the architechure.  Charming place to visit in the peace and quiet of September.

lake michigan: Oval Beach, Saugatuck, Mi Adding 171 Acres of Beach and Dunes - 10/05/09 12:27 PM
The City of Saugatuck is purchasing 171 acres from the Land  Conservancy of West Michigan who is purchasing the land formerly known as Denison South  from Aubrey McClendon for $20 Million Dollars.  The new land will be added to the original Oval Beach and is located between the current  beach and the Kalamazoo River.
It is a somewhat complicated transaction involving $6 Million in donations from various groups and a $12.5 Million Grant to the City of Saugatuck from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund.  The grant still has to be awarded but at the meeting today everyone seemed pretty confident that it will … (5 comments)

lake michigan: Nothing better than Oval Beach, Saugatuck, Michigan in July - 07/31/08 07:22 AM
I finally decided that I was going to go to Oval Beach at least once a week.  Otherwise what is the benefit of living in Saugatuck?  So I am taking time out for myself to spend one hour at the beach at least once a week.  Last week I just wandered over there and watched the waves and had a wonderful Chicago Hot Dog at the Beach Stand at Oval Beach. Really fantastic with onions, fresh tomatoes, and dill pickle.  I just sat there and let the gentle breeze caress my body.  Then I finally understood the Old Testament saying that God was in the gentle breeze.  … (6 comments)

lake michigan: What to expect when your buyer purchases a foreclosure? in Allegan County, Michigan - 03/08/08 08:25 AM
What can your client expect when he purchases a foreclosure?  They can expect a really good deal when they finally locate their property.  What else can they expect?  They can expect quite a bit of work as they look and a lot of frustration in the purchasing process.  You, as their agent, can expect even more.
Since December, three of my clients have purchased foreclosures in Allegan County, Michigan.  One was in Clyde Township, one in Ganges Township and one in Saugatuck Township.  Buying a foreclosure is like walking on hot coals to reach the treasure - It can be compared to an Indiana Jones … (7 comments)

lake michigan: Lake Michigan homes from South Haven through Saugatuck to Holland, Michigan - Market Study 2006 -2007 - 02/04/08 07:08 AM
If you have always wanted a home on the western shore of Lake Michigan because it is always more enjoyable to watch the sunset rather than the sunrise, there are a lot of choices - sixty to be exact -between South Haven through Saugatuck and up to Holland. These properties are either on Lake Michigan or have deeded access to Lake Michigan.  They range in price from around $200,000 to well over $2,000,000.
Two of these sixty properties are in foreclosure - one with 100 feet of private beach for under $950,000, and the other one is listed for $225,000 with deeded access to the lake.
The foreclosures … (4 comments)

lake michigan: Market Conditions in Saugatuck, Holland and surrounding areas - 11/15/07 05:34 AM
If you are thinking about a retirement or second home in the Saugatuck or Holland area, now is the time to make your move.  Two of my clients recently purchased condos in Holland at a considerable discount from previous years.  There are nice, roomy condos in Holland available for under $100,000.
Other clients have been picking up estate properties and foreclosures as investment and rental opportunites at considerable discounts from previous years.  As long as you do not fall in love with a property and can take one of several choices, you can locate your home at a good price.  If you are willing to accept the property … (1 comments)

lake michigan: Lake Michigan in Saugatuck is in an angry mood - 11/06/07 05:51 AM
Lake Michigan was beautiful yesterday and today while in a very angry mood.  A lot of us drove out too see the colder weather coming in from the West.  As we drovedown to Oval Beach, we could feel the wind picking up.  The mile trip through the dunes is an experience in itself - up and down and through a heavily wooded area.  Wanted to share these photos with you all.  This is the perfect place for your second home. Then you can experience the moods of Lake Michigan for yourself.
